Nobel Chair Defends Decision as He's Grilled About Trump's Campaign for Peace Prize

The chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, pushed back against suggestions that this years Nobel Peace Prize decision was made to spite President Donald Trumps public campaign for the award. Frydnes was asked directly just moments after he announced this years prize would go to Venezuelas opposition leader María Corina Machado, whether Trumps repeated insistence that he deserves the prize had affected deliberations.
A reporter in the room asked: During the past months, U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly said he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize and hed like to have it. He even said it would be an insult to the United States if he doesnt get it. What [do you], as chairman of the Nobel Peace Prize committee, think of this? And how has this campaign-like activity by the president and his supporters, domestically and internationally, affected the deliberation and thinking in the committee?
He replied: In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen many types of campaign, media attention. We receive thousands and thousands of letters every year of people wanting to say what, for them, leads to peace. This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates and that room is filled with both courage and integrity. So we base only our decision on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.
The remarks came moments after Machado was awarded the 2025 Peace Prize. Frydnes called her a brave and committed champion of peace who keeps the flame of democracy burning during a growing darkness.

'Deciding who will win the Peace Prize is an exhausting and stressful process,' the committee stated. 'Donald Trumps entry gave us many hours of welcome laughter.' "

(20,308 posts)Barack Obama lived up to that award during his 8 years in the White House.
Former President Obama's life work after college was what awarded him that Honorable award. NOT because he was the first African-American POTUS. The quest for peace takes many shapes and the Nobel Committee took that into consideration.
That, according to members of his regime, "Donald Trump has the heart of a humanitarian." Really? Who callously cuts USAID and then allows vulnerable people to die? To be a "Humanatarian", one has to be a HUMAN. TACO is incapable of any human qualities or emotions other than for ANGER.
Let the ketchup fly. This will eat at him for a long time as the rest of the world continues to laugh at him.

Second, it is quite embarrassing that anyone would publicly brag about how deserving they are of such a prize. It would be refreshing if the LAZY, inept media would remind people what happened on January 6, and how trump refused to accept the results of that election, and incited an insurrection.
The prize encompasses a lot of things, not the least is the whole character of the person.

This is the turning point we've been waiting for, that and the shutdown. I feel it in my bones. The Remaglicans are in chaos.

I very much dislike the elite capitalist María Corina Machado. She represents the money interest in Venezuela who are so upset they lost their wealth to the people. She is every inch a die hard capitalist who wants her easily manipulated, broken democracy back. It's like when they gave the economic prize to Milton Friedman.
But if pedo Trump was her only competition, I'm glad she got it.
