Trump promises cuts to programs favored by Democrats

Source: Politico

10/09/2025 12:53 PM EDT

President Donald Trump said Thursday the administration will begin cutting programs backed by Democrats as the government shutdown stretches into its ninth day.

“We’re only cutting Democrat programs, I hate to tell you, but we are cutting Democrat programs,” the president said during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday. “We will be cutting some very popular Democrat programs that aren’t popular with Republicans, frankly.”

Trump, motioning to Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought, said the administration will make permanent cuts to government programs that he views as Democratic priorities, but did not elaborate on specifics.

“That’s the way it works,” he said. “They wanted to do this so we will give them a little taste of their own medicine.”

. . . the Democrat elected President in 2028 will appoint another Merrick Garland as Attorney General and -- come the 2032 election -- we will be right back where we are now.

11. Odd, I don't recall the Democrats ever doing anything similar so I don't see how it can be their own medicine.

The Republicans has better step up now and stop Trump though because in 3 years the shoe might be on the other foot and deep Red States might actually get some of what Trump's trying to dish out.

think about the regular people . He thinks by trying to hurt a political party he is doing something big. The infrastructure bill all the republicans voted against and then ran home and patting themselves on the back for it should tell the idiot something .

You can't convince the republican base that Trump has tore apart our democracy. Let them suffer the consequences if they haven't already. Maybe the dems should create the democratic healthcare system and Republicans need not apply.
