'What gives them the right?' MAGA senator melts down over Muslims praying outdoors

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) suggested that Muslims did not have the right to pray outdoors in the United States.
During a Thursday interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, Tuberville expressed outrage at Muslims expressing their faith.
"I mean, this is out of control!" the senator exclaimed. "What gives them the right, Alex, to go out in the middle of the street in a lot of these big cities and do their prayer? You got a mosque, go to your mosque!"
"You don't do that in your countries, only you do it where you want to, as you said earlier, you want to mark your ground," he continued. "And that's what they're doing. They're taking over slowly but surely. We have to fight back. Sharia law needs to be banned in this country."

If there's one thing the Bible shows anyone who reads it, it's that authoritarian government, aligned with some extreme conservative religious fundamentalists, literally killed Jesus.
His religion of peace and empathy has been hijacked by a right wing movement that uses his name, waves it over their heads like a prop while it legislates against his actual teachings.

(132 posts)Tuberville would probably be shocked seeing me saying saying my rosary on my front porch. After all, I'm not in my religion's equivalent of a mosque!
Oh, that's right; he probably wouldn't have any idea what a rosary is; after all, just us "Katholics" use them!
Tuberville's statement shows he's nothing but a bigot who keeps his white hood in the closet.

(132 posts)As a Catholic and a military retiree, I have to ask, what would Senator Tuberville say about Father Emil Kapaun saying Mass on the hood of his Jeep?
He'd probably ask, "Who's that?"
Father Emil Kapaun was a US Army Catholic chaplain who served with our troops in Korea during the Korean War, saying Mass, pulling wounded and dead off the battlefield and staying with the troops when they were captured by the North Koreans. He died in a POW camp, a place where he stole food and water to save his troops.
There's a famous photo, at the link above, showing Father Kapaun saying Mass using the hood of an Army Jeep in Korea as an altar. Today, a "Jeep Mass" is often held in places around the US to commemorate Father Kapaun's life and actions.
Father Kapaun was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously by President Obama on April 11, 2013.
Father Kapaun was declared "Venerable" by Pope Francis on February 24, 2025, putting him on the path to possible future canonization as a saint.
Again, I ask, what would Senator Tuberville say about Father Emil Kapaun saying Mass on the hood of his Jeep? After all, a Jeep's hood isn't a house of God like a church or a mosque!

(68,290 posts)He and his followers believe they are right, period. To them it's not about fairness. It's that they think they're right and they're prepared to destroy everyone else to get the power to do what they want.
This is exactly why we have a Constitution. For thousands of years human societies destroyed themselves over exactly this issue.

(745 posts)Narrowly beating Ron Johnson,
What is Tuberville even referring to? I mean, were those praying disrupting traffic or something? Did they have a permit? Or is he, as usual talking out of his ass again? Or mouth? Same thing in his, or Trumps case, or most republicans at this point.
