Israeli government to vote on Gaza ceasefire plan
Source: CNN
Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a US-brokered ceasefire plan that will allow for the release of all hostages in Gaza, Israeli withdrawal to an agreed point and the release of some Palestinian prisoners.
The ceasefire in Gaza will take effect immediately following the Israeli governments approval of the deal, which is expected later today, according to Israeli officials. A formal declaration ending the war in Gaza must be made for a hostage release to take place, according to a senior Hamas official.
US President Donald Trump said the hostages are likely to be released on Monday. Trumps announcement did not address some sticking points in the proposal, including Hamas disarmament and governance of Gaza.
The plan has been met with celebration in Gaza and Israel, though residents in both places expressed caution about whether the initial agreement would lead to a comprehensive peace deal.

I am overjoyed this nightmare is ending (or at least pausing).
I can't help but be peeved that President Narcissist is going to take the credit. Don't give him what he craves, Nobel Committee.

However, I have little confidence that Israel will be allowed to exist in peace. This shit has been going on for over 100 years. Sure, the UK and the UN said they supported the Zionist movement, but I think they turned over UK controlled Palestine to the Jews because they didn't want them to stay in Europe and Russia. Persecution of Jews isn't exactly something new. I found out from one of my high school history teachers that at one point they considered sending them to Ghana. There's actually still a small Jewish community there.

(4,709 posts)neighbors urged them not to accept the Partition, and shortly after Israel became a state.
In fact the British Mandate appointed the Hajj al-Husayni as the grand Muufti of Jerusalem, a virulent anti-semite, until that mandate ended.
The same game was played in the 1967 war with Nassar, pushing the Jews to the sea, and the 1971 Yom Kipper War where the Arab neighbors pushed the Palestinians not to accept any two state solution. The Khartoum Resolution in 1967. "No peace with Israel, No negotiation with Israel, No recognition of Israel."
I think your analysis is right, the British were particularly "friendly" toward the Jews, they just wanted to "get rid of them". That being said, the British weren't particularly friendly toward the Indians, Chinese, etc. during their period of colonization either.
