WASHINGTON ― An actual debate broke out in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday after two Democratic senators staged a press conference outside the House speakers office.
Sens. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) summoned reporters so they could blast House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) over the government shutdown and for refusing to swear in fellow Arizona Democrat Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva, who won a special election last month to fill her late fathers House seat.
Johnson has kept the House out of session since September in an effort to pressure Senate Democrats into voting for a funding bill that passed the House mostly along partisan lines. Senate Democrats have blocked the bill six times.
After they talked for a few minutes about how not seating Grijalva could delay a vote on legislation to force the release of the governments files on the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, Johnson popped out of his office to confront the Democrats.

(6,963 posts)Tell ya what, Jerry. Seeing as how you shut down government to avoid any REAL responsibility (including your DUTY to swear in a duly elected lawmaker, you J6er) how 'bout you pop right back in your case?
They'll pull you out again when they need you.

COLLINS: But a couple months ago, he swore in Jimmy Patronis and Randy Fine in a pro forma session.
JORDAN: I, I, I, didnt, I actually didnt even know that when they were sworn in. But I always remember when it happens, the delegations up front and that person is sworn in.
COLLINS: Do you think it has anything to do with the discharge petition and that she could be the 218th signature for the Jeffrey Epstein files?
