Pro-Trump lawyer John Eastman implores state supreme court to reject 'unprecedented' disbarment recommendation

Conservative attorney John Eastman wants the Golden State's highest court to put the kibosh on long-running disbarment proceedings premised on his role in efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in favor of President Donald Trump.
On Monday, attorneys for Eastman filed a 66-page petition for review with the California Supreme Court asking the justices to oversee the final leg of the contentious dispute and to reject an earlier disbarment recommendation previously issued by a lower court.
The filing, in no uncertain terms, takes authorities with the State Bar of California to task for their efforts against the pro-Trump lawyer on the basis of his legal work for the 45th and 47th president.
"On one hand, the Bar 'reaffirms that all lawyers must be permitted to exercise their professional judgment and ethical duties without fear of reprisal,'" the petition reads. "On the other, it seeks to disbar Dr. Eastman for doing exactly that. Nothing could be more hypocritical or contrary to the fair administration of justice."
