DACA recipient among those at Alligator Alcatraz, attorney says
Source: Sun Sentinel
Earlier this year, he was pulled over for having a broken mirror in Orange County, where she said the law enforcement officer saw the warrant for his arrest in the court system and took him into custody.
Arroyo said she has since provided the court with the mans valid drivers license, and the charge was lessened to a civil citation. She has petitioned Immigration and Customs Enforcement to issue the man a bond so he can be released, but wasnt sure if that would be granted or how long the process would take.
U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement did tell her Alligator Alcatraz wasnt yet able to support attorney visits, which she found concerning.

Those that are inside are literally voiceless, and its important that they have access to their attorneys who can be that voice, Arroyo said. Immigrants have constitutional rights and rights to due process solely by being here on American soil, and a lot of people forget about that.

How are detainees aka prisoners going to get immigration hearings if they don't have access to lawyers? ICE is picking up brown people for a show and don't have even a concept of a plan for what to do with them after they are in custody.

(49,437 posts)they just grab whoever is looking too brown for America. Too bad they won't let you see your attorney to discuss any legal rights.

A lawyer attempting to visit a client at the Alligator Alcatraz migrant detention facility in South Florida reported being unable to get past security to see them in person.
This lack of attorney access has raised concerns about due process and legal representation for those detained at the facility. An attorney reportedly stated that officials at the facility claimed there was "no information" about a visitation policy. However, a spokesperson for the state Division of Emergency Management said that detainees do have access to phone and video calls with their attorneys, and that visitations could be arranged upon request. This individual did not confirm whether these calls were monitored or recorded or how in-person visits could be arranged.
The facility's conditions have also sparked concern, with allegations of poor sanitation, inadequate infrastructure to support the population, and insufficient sleep due to lights being on 24/7. State officials, however, have disputed these claims, stating that the facility "meets all required standards and is in good working order".
The prisoner who said there were worms in the food & they were only getting one meal a day, relayed that through his attorney. Omg, this is all so horrific!
