NRA asks Supreme Court to strike down Florida's post-Parkland gun law

The National Rifle Association (NRA) on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its challenge to Floridas ban on firearm purchases by adults under 21. Its the latest move by the gun-rights group in its four-year-battle to override the 2018 Florida law that bans 18-to-20-year-olds from purchasing long guns.
The full U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit denied the legal challenge by the NRA in March, two years after a three-judge panel similarly ruled against the organization. The Florida Legislature passed and then-Gov. Rick Scott signed the law shortly after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland that killed 17 people.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said after that ruling that his office would not defend the law if in fact the NRA filed an appeal with the high court.
Notwithstanding CA11s opinion today, I believe restricting the right of law-abiding adults to purchase firearms is unconstitutional, Uthmeier said on X on March 14, adding that the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals recently reached the same conclusion. Men and women old enough to fight and die for our country should be able to purchase firearms to defend themselves and their families.

from licensed Federal firearms dealers, not from private persons in face-to-face intrastate transactions, or being gifted firearms consistent with Federal laws.
The NRA is lying when it claims 18-to-20-year-olds are comprehensively prohibited from purchasing and possessing long guns.
The Florida law does not place an undue burden on the Second Amendment right.

(i.e., LaPierre and the other guy have to pay the judgement and not the organization themselves but they still have to reorganize their governance)
So they are still around but hanging by a thread.

(152,491 posts)True story but when he was running for President, CSPAN was actually showing the Libertarian Party nomination "convention" (in quotes because it was basically in a big conference "room" ). But I actually watched it and all the rounds of votes just for the hell of it. It took them a bunch of rounds before Barr finally got the nod back then (this was back in 2008).
And thanks for the prompt to go check on the status of this because I knew they lost the case but then I lost track of what happened after they put Barr in (and of course the media instead focused on 45's election). I also knew they weren't dismantled (which was NY AG Tish James' desire) but they still got wounded.

I just remember when he was in Congress, he was always one of what I called "the annoying Republicans" - (like Sununu (the father), etc)
