Trump says things are 'going very well' after worst stock market drop in years over tariffs
Source: AP via Yahoo Finance
President Donald Trump offered a rosy assessment after the stock market dropped sharply Thursday over his tariffs, saying, “I think it's going very well."
“The markets are going to boom, the stock is going to boom, the country is going to boom,” he said when asked about the market as he left the White House to fly to one of his Florida golf clubs.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped more than 1,600 points on Thursday as U.S. stocks led a worldwide selloff after the Republican president's announcement of tariffs against much of the world ignited a shock like none seen since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trump on Wednesday announced a minimum tariff of 10% on imports, with the tax rate running much higher on products from certain countries like China and those from the European Union.

(55,768 posts)On Putin’s orders. It’s the only thing that makes sense.
Yes putin owns everything that is trump. But, putin is only following what russia's previous dictator said ""We do not have to invade the United States, we will destroy you from within." This is a quote attributed to the late Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev." First putin had to purchase republican people then then he got the desperate idiot. Yes trump has been in debt to putin since the eighties but, they would have never imagined they could place him where he is now. I'm still wondering when people will wake up after the republican's visited russia during 4th of July in 2018: Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), and Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas).

Of course he's an idiot and this is outlandish, but I am guessing the motive behind this is to act like he anticipated what happened today and is "fine" with it, and also (maybe more importantly) to disabuse everyone of the notion he will quickly reverse the moronic thing he has done to the world economy.
If he acted upset or surprised, it could be interpreted as signaling he might change his mind.
But it is simply preposterous.

Herbert Hoover's time in the Oval during the Great Depression is often criticized for his policies, including his reluctance to use federal funds for direct relief, his support for the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, (significantly raised tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods in an effort to shield American industries from foreign competition during the onset of the Great Depression, which began in 1929) and which many historians argue deepened the economic downturn of the world. So trump is becoming one of the things he has always feared the most.. just another lack-witted, profoundly stupid Herbert Hoover gonna-be

(6,941 posts)He is an ideas man, comes up with an idea, declares it is good and will show everyone how bigly a genius he is.
Then he handballs his idea to underlings, and sits back.
It doesn't matter if the idea is unworkable, impractical or a total disaster, Trump will think it is good, and will say so, independent of reality.
Reality and self-appraisal don't get a look-in.
The word 'delusional' doesn't really cover it.
And whatever this is, it is infectious, people actually voted for him.
Hopefully the fever dreamers out there are recovering and seeing reality more clearly.
