The Social Security Administration's (SSA) online services are facing heightened criticism after the MySSA portal crashed for the fifth time in March, disrupting access for millions of Americans who depend on the digital platform to manage their benefits. The outages have become a flashpoint amid sweeping changes within the agency led by a federal efficiency initiative under President Donald Trump's second administration.
On March 31, the MySSA portal suffered a "full outage" that also affected multiple internal systems. SSA spokeswoman Nicole Tiggemann said in a statement that "some people may have experienced a problem signing in to their personal 'My Social Security' account," and that the agency was "actively investigating the root cause" of the disruption.
Four prior outages had already hit the website earlier in March. The repeated failures were attributed to overwhelmed servers. "The SSA website crashed four times in the ten days this month because the agency's servers were overloaded," International Business Times reported, noting that the outages had "prevented countless retirees from accessing their online accounts."
The SSA has not issued a direct statement regarding the March 31 outage on its press page, but recent releases show the agency is focused on modernizing identity verification and streamlining internal processes.

(7,602 posts)Just slap something together that might work, but will definitely have some stuff in it that allows the Musk folks to manipulate the payouts, and obfuscate the theft of money from the Social Security System.
Also lends weight to a need to privatize the system. Then the real theft could begin.
