Trump fires Chairman of the Joint Chiefs

Source: Associated Pressure

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump abruptly fired Air Force Gen. CQ Brown as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Friday, sidelining a history-making fighter pilot and respected officer as part of a campaign to rid the military of leaders who support diversity and equity in the ranks.

The ouster of Brown, only the second Black general to serve as chairman, is sure to send shock waves through the Pentagon. His 16 months in the job had been consumed with the war in Ukraine and the expanded conflict in the Middle East.

DEI (F all the 'woke' PR) has helped the US Military; in fact, the military has been the most non-ideological sector of the US after WWII. Which is one reason the national public majority polled in favor of DEI as reported on Rachel last night. DEI is a weapon against race/gender prejudice. The public knows this.

So here's Lt. General John D. Caine

https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Biographies/Display/Article/2942633/john-d-caine/

Lt. Gen. Dan Caine was sworn in as the Associate Director for Military Affairs, Central Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C., Nov. 3, 2021. His most recent assignment was as the Director of Special Programs and the Department of Defense special Access Program Central Office at the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia, where he served as the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Secretary of Defense for all programs protected under special access controls. He has served in a wide range of operational, staff and joint assignments, primarily as an F-16 fighter pilot, weapons officer, member of the White House staff and special operations officer.

Lt. Gen. Caine was commissioned in 1990 through the ROTC program at the Virginia Military Institute and he has a Master of Arts in Air Warfare from the American Military University. He has completed a range of national security and leadership courses, including Harvard Kennedy School's course for Senior Executives in National and International Security, and the Syracuse University Maxwell School's Program on National Security. As a command pilot, he has logged more than 2,800 hours in the F-16, including more than 150 combat hours. From 2009-2016, Caine was a part-time member of the National Guard and a serial entrepreneur and investor.

Did you look over his assignments?
It's hard to see where his CIA service ends and military service begins.

So now what. It's not as if the current felon CiC has given an illegal order. Or is it. Who'd even have standing to mount a legal challenge under the The 1986 Goldwater-Nichols Act? And is it a priority fight, even.

Seems to me that our veteran folks here might keep an eye on how the military's structure changes and what that means.

I was an officer's wife during the Vietnam war, lived on base at Fort Gordon, GA. I know more than most civilians about military life, but still don't know how the military system advances officers. You don't need to be a military vet to read the law, and read comments from military officers.

Basically this guy is a fighter pilot and special ops officer.
A few leadership roles, nothing noteworthy.

Basically a pilot who did some secret squirrel stuff for the CIA.
Not impressive in the least.

From the Air and Space Forces Magazine, 2/21/25
https://www.airandspaceforces.com/brown-generals-fired-trump/

Caine is a highly unusual choice. U.S. Code states the “President may appoint an officer as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff only if the officer has served as (A) the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; (B) the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, or the Chief of Space Operations; or (C) the commander of a unified or specified combatant command.”

Caine never served in those roles.
However, the law also states the those requirements can be waived “if the President determines such action is necessary in the national interest.” Congress must confirm any nomination.
Caine retired in December after a tour as Associate Director for Military Affairs at the CIA. Trump has repeatedly praised him in public going back to his first term in office.

I am a USAF kid and know full well that somne generals are highly qualified. Others are cheaters, schnmoers and ass kissers who make their rank that way. It is obvious how this guy made his rank.

One can certainly make a case that this was a good thing when the ideologies were Republican party vs. Democratic party, both committed to democracy.

This is no longer the case. The US has only one party committed to democracy now. If the upper echelons in the military, in politics, in education, in the press, and in business don't come to terms with this reality very quickly, I think that I can predict where we will end up.

...and I've always got questions. What's the military's momentum right now?
We have to take into account that we don't see it, shouldn't see it, and that "politics, in education, in the press, and in business" are probably not supposed to see it, either. Such behind the scenes work uses classified AI, Big Tech and major classified intelligence and counterintelligence systems.

Can we believe or trust that upper echelons of the military would, behind civilian scenes, gather their evidence of illegal orders (which I've not yet seen evidence of), act on their oath and without any warning stop this lawless civilian government in a way that protects and defends the US Constitution?
That would be an historic event I personally and politically look forward to.

Sorry for rambling. I probably need sleep.

that whatever the military does will be behind the scenes. It seems like in other countries what the military does is sometimes a complete surprise. It is ironic, civilian control of the military is supposed to be a good thing, but when the civilian commander in chief is compromised it is a whole new game.

I hope that you sleep as well as is possible. I hope that I do too.

Also, you dig far enough down the chain of command, you’ll eventually find an obsequious dirtbag. I have a dim view of senior officers, though, that might be unwarranted.

He wants everybody back in their places. Women belong at home with the kids; blacks on the plantations (corporations), Mexicans back to their country, even if they were born here; and white males at the top of the heap... if they have enough money to buy their place there. Otherwise, they just have to rely on their own WASP privilege. Oh... and everyone HAS to be christian... except for trump. He's pure as driven snow, according to him and his "pastors"...

Gods! I detest this man! I do hope as things get down to brass tacks with the massive firing of fed workers, the ousting of women and black men from their -earned- positions, and that the price of nothing in the market has come down at all, but only gone upwards in price, that the American people are finally beginning to open their damned eyes and see that the leopards are, indeed, coming to eat THEIR faces!

CNN: In an unprecedented purge of the military’s senior leadership Friday night, President Donald Trump fired the top US general just moments before his defense secretary fired the chief of the US Navy and others.

In announcing the dismissal, Trump called Joint Chiefs Chairman Charles Q. Brown a “fine gentleman” and an “outstanding leader.” Brown is only the second Black man to serve as chairman and was the first Black service chief in US military history when he was confirmed as chief of the Air Force in 2020.

The president hinted at the firings to come in the announcement on his Truth Social platform. “Finally, I have also directed [Defense] Secretary [Pete] Hegseth to solicit nominations for five additional high level positions, which will be announced soon,” he wrote.

Minutes later, Hegseth released a statement in which he fired Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the chief of the Navy and the first woman to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Not blaming you, OKIsItJustMe…

The woman fired was an admiral that served on the “Joint Chiefs of Staff”, not a Chief as in “Chief Petty Officer”.

Calling an officer a Chief is a recipe to get an ass chewing by at least two people… 😄

Trump is replacing senior military leadership with his sycophants that will be willing to use the US military against civilians.

“Unless you call it the ‘Gulf of America ’ we won’t let you attend news conferences.”

You know, Reagan’s team gave the pool gorgeous video footage (staged as if he was some kind of B-Movie star, playing the President.) "Oh, sure, you can use your cameras, and staff… Or, you can just use our video… It’s up to you…”

That was childsplay compared to this guy!

Immediate Release
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth Statement on General Officer Nominations
Feb. 21, 2025 |

This evening the President announced that he intends to nominate Lieutenant General Dan "Razin" Caine, USAF, for the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation's highest-ranking military officer, and the principal military advisor to the President, Secretary of Defense, and National Security Council.

I am also requesting nominations for the positions of Chief of Naval Operations and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff. The incumbents in these important roles, Admiral Lisa Franchetti and General James Slife, respectively, have had distinguished careers. We thank them for their service and dedication to our country.

We are also requesting nominations for the Judge Advocates General for the Army, Navy and Air Force.

- Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth
Thank you for your service. — Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

“All of the most qualified people will be able to get jobs immediately, there are plenty of positions for former federal employees, who have connections, and know the ins and outs of Washington.” I agreed, saying, “Yeah, they just need to answer the phone, or maybe return the call of one of the headhunters who have been calling them for years but they’ve been too loyal to the nation to listen to their offers…"

Admiral Lisa Franchetti is a woman and he can't have that, but General Jim Slife, the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, is a white man. So, I wonder what Jim Slife did to piss Trump off.

Trump's entering dangerous territory...when a president visits a military base he is saluted with 21 shots fired from a howitzer...what's to say that the gun crew won't "accidentally" slip a live High Explosive shell into one of those guns and set the gun to hit the reviewing stand?

But EVERY Flag Officer in the military should submit their resignations TONIGHT!

Oh, there are a handful of Donnie Dipshit ball-lickers like Mike Flynn, but I believe they are a minority of the officer corps.

The Returdlicans won't pay a price for the damage they are doing to military readiness, until the military readiness is damaged.

If just half of the Flag Officers were to resign en masse, the chaos would be impossible to "spin", or to hide.

I hope, though, that they are keeping that option open for when Trump gives them illegal orders.

and has never commanded large formations of troops.

So this is more meritocracy and qualifications instead of DEI, of course.

They are installing loyalists who will do whatever Trump wants. The real question for us is what is that going to be? That should worry people.
