With three weeks left until Election Day, and amid a packed campaign schedule, Vice President Kamala Harris will sit for her first interview with Fox News.
The network announced Monday that its chief political anchor Bret Baier will interview Harris on Wednesday in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state. Their conversation will be prerecorded in the afternoon and will air later that night on Baier's "Special Report" at 6 p.m. ET.
The Democratic presidential candidate's decision to sit for the interview comes after the network invited the presidential frontrunners to debate in late October. Republican nominee former President Donald Trump declined that invitation after their first matchup in September.
Since launching her bid for the White House, Harris has received criticism for not accepting many sit-down interviews with traditional news outlets. She has ramped up media appearances in recent weeks, including a "60 Minutes" interview that aired last Monday.

(26 posts)don't see the logic in this. Just like I don't agree with the decision to put a Repube in a cabinet position. It seems like a setup and I have no doubt they will try and knock her back on her heels so she has to be on the defense for the length of the interview. But then, I'm not the one who has to play three dimensional chess.

They are a bunch of flunky fake news purveyors.
Come on.
timoteus
(26 posts)or Attorney General is a position where you are in great control. This is different. They can relentlessly question her on the weak points to muddy the water and use that to their advantage. Every question will be crafted to ensnare her and most importantly to generate talking points that can be amplified on all the news shows.
Come on.
BumRushDaShow
(139,708 posts)That's what they are trained to do. They question but have to ANTICIPATE the defense side and THEIR questioning/cross examination.
It's not "different".
The only ones who are clueless are the Faux Snooze crew. Pete Buttigieg practically lives there and we used to have a DUer who was also on there continually taking them down.
a questionee in an interview and prosecuting in court are way different in my estimation. One misstatement or one answer taken out of question is fodder for the coming weeks and will keep her on the defensive when she should be on the offense pointing out the incredible ineptitude of what's his name.
BumRushDaShow
(139,708 posts)can mean an acquittal instead of a conviction.
She knows what she's doing and promoting that kind of FUD stuff on this site is ridiculous. She could do a "perfect" interview and the RW media wouldl twist it out of context anyway.
The insinuations are insulting.
timoteus
(26 posts)I said misstatement. Saying something not entirely clear or interpreted how they want to hear it like you just did. I agree with your perfect interview statement and that the media will just twist it. There is no upside to doing this interview. Ditto the forehead smackey thingy.
MarineCombatEngineer
(14,236 posts)If there's no upside, then why would VP Harris agree to it?
Think maybe she knows better than you?
If you don't think so, then maybe you should call up the campaign HQ and tell them that YOU don't think it's a good idea, I'm quite sure they'll listen to you and cancel the interview.

(139,708 posts)When it comes to LAW, "misstatement" = "wrong". The "technicality" can be enough to introduce "reasonable doubt" and the case can be toast.
Anyone who goes into trial law, has to learn how to think on their feet and pivot when things go in a different direction.
She has been doing multiple interviews and the media is barely reporting on it because they have a "narrative" out there that she isn't doing any, and 45 is like a 30 year old running around the country at dozens of big rallies and interviews.
Don't believe their FUD or their hype.
but this isn't court, it's an interview, so like I said "different". And like you said, the media has a narrative and isn't reporting fairly so why do an interview on Fox of all places where you won't get fair treatment during or after the interview? I mean Obama refused to do Fox interviews to put them in their place so why is Harris?
BumRushDaShow
(139,708 posts)What do you think goes on in a "court" exactly?
Witnesses are asked questions and they give answers and the "fun" begins. The idea is to convince the jury (audience) that what you are saying is truthful or not. The lawyers can ask the questions a certain way to solicit the responses they want.
The analogy is quite sound.
Why are you afraid of Faux? And why do you think Kamala Harris is the same as Barack Obama? They are not con-joined twins, they have different legal backgrounds, and the Faux of today, who 45 has refused to participate in while whining and moaning, ended up paying $787 MILLION dollars to a Smartmatic for their bullshit. So they aren't the same Faux as they were when Obama was President.

(1,549 posts)If she does well the MAGA will say it was a softball interview, if she has the slightest misstep it gets blasted all over the media (even if 99.9999% of the rest of the interview she hit it out of the park.
But I guess they (Kamalas team) are ready for all these possibilities and I have to give her credit for having the guts to do it. I will say that she seems to be getting more comfortable each interview.

(46,266 posts)Despite his conservatism, Baier is informed on issues and his queries will be hard-hitting but with substance, which gives our VP the opportunity to rebut, reframe, and triumph. He won't deliver any softballs of course, but he usually has a question moderate in tone and he is respectful. I don't anticipate this will devolve into dislike or confrontation, more like wary mutual respect. I think it's a good venue for her.
