Let me answer the first question, Scott said. I think Ronald Reagan gave us a great example when federal employees decided they were going to strike. He said, you strike, youre fired. Simple concept to me. To the extent that we can use that once again, absolutely.
Scotts campaign declined to comment on why he referenced firing federal workers when asked how he would handle the current strike by the autoworkers.
.......................
Scotts criticisms on Monday extended to President Joe Biden, who has defended striking auto workers and repeatedly characterized himself as the most pro-union president in American history.
Part of the challenge that we have today with President Biden is and I dont mean this to be disingenuous, I mean this to be sincere Im not sure if the words are bought and paid for, but certainly he has been leased by the unions, Scott said.
Scott has made his criticisms of unions a focal point of his campaign, often slamming teachers unions but lately widening his scope to include the United Auto Workers.................

(14,992 posts)It's a right-to-work state (i.e., anti-union) and I don't think any of the three in SC (Mercedes, Volvo and BMW) are unionized.

(8,109 posts)The state does have a right to work law. In any case it's likely the workers know how much higher wages are for unionized workers in their industry.

(4,969 posts)Is notorious as an anti union state. None of the car plants there are unionized, and Boeing moved 787 production to Charleston to avoid unions in Seattle.

Given their way, they would dissolve your union TOMORROW.

(6,483 posts)do they know that Tim Scott wants to eliminate (most of) their jobs?
I used to know many federal employees--with great jobs (high paying, great benefits, union representation)--who thought Hillary was the devil and were ecstatic when red don got into the WH.

(16,163 posts)invoke the spectre of Unions bribing, influencing, owning, or leasing as he put it, the President. Were this to be true, minimum wage would be 25$ an hour and we would have nationwide health care.................
Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)he is displaying a profound ignorance of labor laws in this country. It just doesn't work that way. Makes you wonder how ignorant he is about other things. Probably lots of other things.
The Air Traffic Controllers were an easy target for Reagan because they had signed a no-strike clause which made them vulnerable to firing. The UAW will sign a no-strike clause just after someone proves the moon is made of green cheese.
