14-year-old arrested in fatal shooting in Florida
Source: ABC News
Authorities in Florida have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with a shooting that left one victim dead and another in critical condition.
Reports for the shooting at the 11000 block of Lynmoor Drive in Riverview, Florida, came in on Saturday afternoon at the same time that emergency dispatchers received calls detailing a young male suspect running through the neighborhood with a handgun, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they contacted the suspect, who repeatedly pointed the gun to his head and threatened to shoot himself, authorities said.
The deputies then began de-escalation tactics and negotiated with the suspect for 16 minutes, ultimately convincing him to lower his weapon, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister told reporters during a news conference.

(21,057 posts)You're the only one who acknowledged their mistake, and I commend you for that. The rest stood silent when they were corrected.

Why wasn't he handcuffed and put in the police car after the de-escalation was complete. He could have retrieved that gun and shot several cops and folks in the neighborhood.

these comments are tiresome...there are plenty of non-fatal encounters between POC and police....while I understand the percentages do show a degree of unfairness, to act as POC are always gunned down is silly

(3 posts)You have to move your gun hand to point it at your head, thats all the police need to startt shooting if the suspect is a black child.

(15,399 posts)dragged from her car in broad daylight at a busy L.A. intersection, pistol-whipped to the ground, then two bullets put through her left eye. The assailant got away with 58 cents, half a pack of smokes, and the life of a young girl's mother. Quickly captured, he and his 16-year-old accomplice were sentenced to far too few years. Both were out by their 18th birthdays.
I think of Lucille often, even now, when some 50 years separates me from her loss. I hope her terror was dulled by shock. She had a beautiful 11-year-old daughter, with hair as red as her Mother's. I wish I'd kept in touch but that bastard war interfered, and when I finally returned my family had lost touch as the little girl and her father had moved out of state.
I think often of those little criminals, as well. And I hope both went on to lead productive, fulfilled lives. But I don't imagine they did. I suspect they continued as they had chosen and their end was something on the order of her's.
