Judge blocks Arizona law banning trans athletes from girls' sports teams

Source: NBC News/AP

TUCSON, Ariz. — A federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked Arizona from enforcing a law banning transgender girls from playing on girls’ school sports teams.

The judge in Tucson granted a preliminary injunction to allow processing of a lawsuit filed on behalf of two transgender girls against the state’s “Save Women’s Sports Act,” which was passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature last year. The lawsuit argues the law violates federal Title IX, the law barring sex discrimination in schools receiving federal funds, and the equal protection clause of the U.S. Constitution.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne, who is a defendant in the case, said the decision will be appealed. “This will ultimately be decided by the United States Supreme Court, and they will rule in our favor,” Horne said in a statement.

Arizona is one of several states and some school districts that have passed laws limiting access to school sports teams or other facilities to students on the basis of the sex they were assigned at birth rather than their gender identity.

this is probably in the end going to be one of the last that's broken through on, and it'll likely have conditions attached to it for quite a long while. And depending on those conditions, that's MAYBE how it should be, at least in some instances.

The idea polls fairly terribly at this moment in time. But then, so did Gay Marriage prior to about 2008.

I'm way more concerned about kids (and adults) getting the medical care they need, and that's absolutely a battle worth fighting at this time, and one which happens to poll better with the general public.

Forcing THIS configuration of SCOTUS to decide this matter, at this point in time?

I'm not sure it's going to work out how many would hope, I'll leave it at that.

Hopefully I've managed to not run afoul of DU rules on this subject, which I have been instructed to read in the past, and did.

Now they are the only thing the trump cultists can talk about, aside from Hunter Biden.

They had been talking about it before COVID, but Tucker giving that piece of shit a megaphone is where it all started to go south, I think.
