Capitol riot: Nashville's 'zip-tie guy' guilty on all charges
Source: Nashville Tennessean
A federal court Tuesday handed down guilty verdicts for the Nashville man best known as zip-tie guy and his mother for the pairs role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Eric Munchel, who infamously brandished zip ties as he walked the inside of the Capitol during the riot, and his mother Lisa Eisenhart, of Woodstock, Georgia, were found guilty on all charges in a D.C. District Court Tuesday.
The pair are scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 8.
Originally charged mainly with trespassing charges, the charges against Munchel and Eisenhart expanded in October to include obstruction, conspiracy, disorderly conduct and unauthorized entry. Munchel was found guilty of additional charges for carrying a deadly or dangerous weapon on Capitol grounds because he was armed with a Taser, court records say.

Hmmm. I wonder if prison life is her idea of being free from oppression? Hopefully, we'll find out!

If you don't take zip ties and tactical gear on vacation, are you even American? The mask is for COVID obviously.

If they are guilty why wait until September to sentence them.
Pardon me if I seem a little naive about this, but this just doesn't make any sense to me.
Just asking.

(42,298 posts)The appeals court told Lamberth to change his ruling on keeping Munchel detained pre-trial, so Lamberth probably doesn't want another appeal overruling him after conviction. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetillman/capitol-riot-cases-jail-ruling-eric-munchel-case
Other considerations could be the judge's case load, the judge's sentencing practices, or the judge himself. Apparently, Lamberth didn't think the DOJ under Obama prosecuted very fairly, and it likely didn't. He doesn't seem ideological. So it seems pretty complicated, as are a lot of these cases, what with all these white folks wanting such special "due process" treatment.
Keep in mind that it's been a long hard slog for the DC courts over Jan 6. And the larger context for all this is that the judicial system, overall, is overburdened.
Of course, out here, we know that Republicans in Congress want to make sure it stays that way.
