Media drop Dilbert after creator's Black 'hate group' remark
Source: Associated Press
The creator of the Dilbert comic strip faced a backlash of cancellations Saturday while defending remarks describing people who are Black as members of a hate group from which white people should get away.
Various media publishers across the U.S. denounced the comments by Dilbert creator Scott Adams as racist, hateful and discriminatory while saying they would no longer provide a platform for his work.
Andrews McMeel Syndication, which distributes Dilbert, did not immediately respond Saturday to requests for comment. But Adams defended himself on social media against those whom he said hate me and are canceling me.
Adams, who is white, repeatedly referred to people who are Black as members of a hate group or a racist hate group and said he would no longer help Black Americans.

When did Scott Adams help a Black American or any American of color?

(3,456 posts)Dilbert was a witty commentary on the corporate office mentality that was the "cubicle farm". I lived it in my previous life as an IT guy, so I could relate to what went on in the strip. But, Adams is such a POS, he had to make it known and now, he's suffering the consequences of his actions/choices. I have no sympathy for the asshole.
Oh, well...

(7,755 posts)Sorry Scott had to learn the hard way. Dilbert was a classic that many of us could relate to, but this was just stupid on his part.

So true...and yet, so fair!

Heavy handed, ill-informed, straw-man arguments and deathly unfunny, the only possible chuckle I ever got from that malformation of a comic strip was the title. But my lord, what a quack of a cartoonist.

(43,980 posts)Hitlers minister of propaganda. Blame your enemy for what you do. Tell a lie over and over again. Ignorance and hate fuel conservatism. Often funded by social entitlements which we are all told by those who speak loudest wil destroy freedom. While failing to turn down said entitlements. Old white people sitting in front of the tv shaking their fists, screaming about what is wrong with this country while surviving on what this country gives them. Trained to turn a blind eye to the capitalists who take it from them aided and abetted by their Republican mine workers in Washington. I apologize for rambling on. Too much material to work with.

(14,526 posts)Like all right wing comics and comedians, he just has no sense of humour. I just went to Google images and searched for any cartoon of his to see if a random strip might prove me wrong.

I see that this one is making fun of people who he thinks exaggerate the act of gas-lighting by someone else? Just when one political party is being continually accused of gaslighting, hmmmmm.
But the main thing for a comic is.......Is it funny?
No. and neither are any others I found but didn't post. So lame, so vanilla, so repetitive.

(21,900 posts)Once upon a time, it WAS funny (emphasis on WAS). I loved it back in the 80s and 90s, and I have some books of old Dilbert strips that can still make me chortle.
But as the saying goes, that was then, this is now. I think he ran out of ideas a while back, and should have quit while he was ahead. Instead he keeps recycling old ideas, and when he does have a sort of new one (like this), he has trouble making it work.
Also, his misanthropy and bitterness are creeping into his work more and more. He really should just pack it in. He's got to be rich af by now and well past having anything to gain from continuing.
EDITED TO ADD: Not just his misanthropy and bitterness. His misanthropy and bitterness AND his misogyny. Exhibit A:
