The US House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to remove from the Capitol a bust of Roger Taney, the supreme court justice who in 1857 wrote the Dred Scott decision, justifying slavery and denying that Black people had rights any "white man was bound to respect".
If the new measure is signed into law by Joe Biden, the bust will be removed from outside the old supreme court chamber and replaced by a bust of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black justice.

It is so satisfying to watch as America flushes our past filth. We are headed in the right direction. No we will not celebrate the horror of slavery in America!

(98,883 posts)argue why Roe V Wade should not have been legalized
Of course, those were NOT even related except in bush's and the republicans collective twisted minds.
It was pretty clear in 2000 that the goal of the repukes was to overturn Roe, and why Nader will go down in history as one of the most arrogant and selfish people ever, by spewing the LIE that there was no difference between republicans and Democrats.
The green party in 2000 and 2016 contributed to where we are today

(12,249 posts)I wonder if the Supremes are going to declare it unconstitutional?
The original US Constitution must have addressed never ever moving racist monuments. They could pretend it's a religious icon and stop the removal based on religious freedom. Never removing racist monuments has got to be there in the constitution somewhere though. I'm sure Brett and Clarence can dig it out.

(52,240 posts)I just hope there will never be any busts of c.thomas the cynical choice of Bush 1. This was right after the death of Justice Thurgood Marshall a true American sitting on our Supreme court of the land. He continually sought "justice for all". I agree

(4,552 posts)The number of soldiers who died between 1861 and 1865 during the treasonous civil war is generally estimated at 620,000, approximately equal to the total of American fatalities in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, and the Korean War, combined.
rodger taney and the Dread Scott decision are directly responsible for that genocide.
I say we hold a national lottery the winner gets to destroy that putrid bust. I would let it soak in my sewer tank for a few months and then blow it up.
