SAN FRANCISCO Elon Musk became Twitters owner late Thursday as his $44 billion deal to take over the company closed, marking a new era for one of the worlds most influential social media platforms.
As one of his first moves, he fired several top Twitter executives, according to three people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. One of those confirmed the deal had closed.
CEO Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, and Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy, trust, and safety, were all fired, according to the people. Sean Edgett, the companys general counsel, was also pushed out, one of the people said. The top executives were hastily shuttled from the building, the people said.
Musks moves late Thursday signal his intentions to put his stamp firmly one of the worlds most influential social media companies. Musk has publicly criticized Twitters outgoing management over product decisions and content moderation, as well as saying he would restore former president Donald Trumps account.

The closure of the deal capped a months-long roller coaster saga in which the billionaire -- the world's richest man -- conducted a hostile takeover to buy the company at an inflated price, only to renege on the deal and then enter into a bitter legal battle with the social network.

a second page of emojis pop up and sarcasm is the first one.
there are a number of other good ones on that second page.

(690 posts)Unless he does something to really mess it up, I highly doubt Twitter will be going away anytime soon. Even if Trump goes back, people love confrontation and arguing. Twitter feeds people what they want.
At some point reality is going hit Musk and he's going to have actually think about what he has got into, and figure out what can be done realistically and what cannot be done. I bet he tweaks some things, but overall not much changes

(2,617 posts)Now TFG, because he cannot help himself, will make sure he cannot claim the 5th. He will blab and blab on anything that comes up. Now he can start dripping caustic venom on all of his followers and make it pretty damn clear to everyone with a mind, that he, all by himself, is a terrorist organization.
Elon's stock in Twitter, without the pyramid investment that built it, will not be a profit center like it was. And if we stop posting Tweets, then it goes the way of all RW Websites. The feedback loop will make it more and more violent, deceitful and inaccurate. Without moderation, the Sewer will overflow.
Meanwhile, the booted executives, will have a golden opportunity to make a new and better version of Twitter, without previous baggage. If they are smart and careful, they can turn nothing into billions and be able to pick and choose from the old list of employees as they run from Twitter.

(11,478 posts)"A Hard Day's Night" and "Yellow Submarine," two of The Beatles' films, are considered by critics today as outstanding.
Roger Ebert on "A Hard Day's Night":
"It was clear from the outset that "A Hard Day's Night" was in a different category from the rock musicals that had starred Elvis and his imitators. It was smart, it was irreverent, it didn't take itself seriously, and it was shot and edited by Richard Lester in an electrifying black-and-white, semi-documentary style that seemed to follow the boys during a day in their lives. And it was charged with the personalities of the Beatles, whose one-liners dismissed the very process of stardom they were undergoing."
And on "Yellow Submarine":
"The result, like "Fantasia," is a music-based animated film for the ages. The songs sound dramatically better, and the story avoids the usual gee-whiz urgency of so much animation and reflects the same deadpan understatement that the Beatles used in "A Hard Day's Night." Perhaps because the Beatles were considered such a draw, perhaps because the songs were counted on to sell the film, there was no agenda to dumb down the material or hard-sell the story. Instead of contrived urgency, there's unpressured whimsy, and the movie exists as pure charm, expressed in fantastical imagery. And then there are the songs."
Just sayin'. As George says in "A Hard Day's Night," ...

(2,243 posts)Musk is going to allow Trump to return to Twitter and everyone will get a fresh reminder of his vileness and insanity. Just in case some have forgotten. Just in time for the midterms.
It will be a blaring advertisement of what will happen if the Republicans are returned to power.
The chaos, hatred, violent authoritarian fantasies, and the sheer simple meanness will be shoved into the minds and souls of the American people right before they make their final decision.
I hope it is enough.

(2 posts)Many reports that Jack Dorsey is beta testing a new social app called Bluesky....possibly as a refuge for those seeking to leave Twitter. Reports say it will be a decentralized social app. Not sure what that means tho. Will be interesting to see if it competes with Twitter for users.

Q: Jack Dorsey is launching Bluesky, a new social network to compete with Twitter. Ill just join that instead!
A: Sorry to disappoint, but Dorsey played a key role in Musks deal to take Twitter private. The two are good friends. And Bluesky is an initiative launched by Twitter. In April, Dorsey wrote, In principle, I dont believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company. Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness.
Ty, DUer, BootinUp for sharing the above!
