Mutinous Russian troops ran over their own commander, say western officials
Source: The Guardian
Western officials have said they believe a Russian commander was run over by mutinous forces during the fighting in Ukraine, in a sign of what they described as the morale challenges faced by the invading forces.
They highlighted and repeated reports from earlier this week from a Ukrainian journalist that a colonel of the 37th separate guards motor rifle brigade was run over by a tank. Some reports said he had died of his injuries.
One official said they believed that the brigade commander was killed by his own troops as a consequence of the scale of losses that had been taken by his brigade in the bitter fighting.

I read elsewhere that he died.
Not sure how you survive being run over by a tank.

Niedermeyer treatment.

(114,034 posts)You know, "What happened to Col. Blimpsky?" "He was in the way, we ran over him with our tank."
It's certainly plausible given a dark sense of humor.
He's been listed as injured in more places than not, maybe he stuck a big foot under a tank tread to get out of the war, although that seems a bit extreme. Maybe he was just clumsy.
Chances are we'll never know.
I remember reports of fragging in Vietnam, they always happened in another unit, buddy told me, heard it in a bar, apocryphal. No one I know has ever owned up to being a distant witness, let alone a perp, not even 50 years down the road.
Chances are we'll never know that, either.

(30,063 posts)I read an article somewhere that features a photo of him being carried away on a stretcher and his coloring wasn't good. It described his injuries as being "crush injuries to both legs" so it's of note that his lower body was covered by a blanket in the photo of him on the stretcher.
