Atlanta Braves win World Series for the first time since 1995

(CNN)The Atlanta Braves have won their first World Series title since 1995 after defeating the Houston Astros 7-0 in Game 6 on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.
The Braves took the Series four games to two behind strong pitching and three big home runs. And although Atlanta couldn't close out the Astros at home in Game 5, thousands of fans flocked to the Braves' stadium, Truist Park, on Tuesday to watch the game on a nippy but starry night.
"They played great. We couldn't keep them in the ballpark," Astros manager Dusty Baker said. "We walked somebody, then that led to the crooked-number innings. The pitching shut us down."
The Braves once again homered their way to an early lead. In the top of the third, Braves Jorge Soler hammered the eighth pitch from Astros starter Luis Garcia for a three-run home run after Ozzie Albies singled and Eddie Rosario walked around two flyouts. Soler's third homer of the Series traveled an estimated 446 feet, and it was the last pitch Garcia, starting on short rest, threw.

(1,822 posts)That said, the Braves have an exciting young team that's fun to watch. They won handily without arguably their best player (Ronald Acuna Jr out w/ torn ACL.). They should be even better next year if he can stay healthy.
As a fan of an AL West team I've had to suffer through 5 years of Astros dominating and then the cheating scandal. I'm tired of having to watch the playoffs without a team in it. Astros are done. Fuck 'em.

(93 posts)The bigger win will be when everyone comes to their senses and changes the team name to the Hammers in honor of the Great Hank Aaron, substitute the tomahawk for a hammer, and throw the war chant into the dustbin.
They need to get rid of the racist tomahawk chop.

(93 posts)It's not so much racism, but people having grown up with the team. People underestimate how difficult it is to separate their family memories of watching the team win if the current team has a different name. Still need to change it though.

(9,435 posts)I am very happy the Braves won last night. I have been a Braves fan for many years. I did feel sorry for Democratic Houston Astros fans. It seems like it was a really rough night for them last night. Their baseball team lost last night and it least one of their candidates (Terry McAuliffe) lost last night. At least my favorite baseball team won the World Series last night.
