No Marriott money for Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and all Republicans who voted against certifying Biden

Source: Market Watch

Money talks, and at Marriott International , it’s speaking out loudly against those who objected to the certification of the 2020 election following the riots in D.C. last week.

“We have taken the destructive events at the Capitol to undermine a legitimate and fair election into consideration and will be pausing political giving from our Political Action Committee to those who voted against certification of the election,” a Marriott spokesperson Popular Information.

The political newsletter asked 144 corporations that donated to at least one of the eight objecting senators if they’d continue to offer financial support. In addition to Marriott, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Commerce Bancshares also said they would be suspending donations.

-snip-

Separately, high-profile names like Bank of America Ford Motor and AT&T all told Popular Information that they would take recent events into consideration before making future donations. CVS Health Corp. Exxon Mobil , FedEx and Target said they’re reviewing their policies.

Was named after J. Willard Marriott who founded the hotel chain. I'm not sure if there are still close ties between the two families.

Pro-Trump Bible bangers? Probably doing thoughts and prayers or looking up Jesus' Second Great Commandment or watching football.

Another reason to write a law to void Citizens United. Put donations back into the people’s hands only. Corporations are not citizens and do not have a citizens interests at heart. This should be the first thing Congress works on to level the playing field. Restoring the equal time clause on all media outlets, even Faux News.

The new Defense Authorization Act passed over Trump's veto requires the Treasury Department to maintain a database of the beneficiaries of all LLCs and shell corporations. If applied properly, there will be no such thing as dark money any longer.

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Marriott International Inc, the world’s largest hotel company, and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) said Sunday they will suspend donations to U.S. lawmakers who voted against certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory last week.

“We have taken the destructive events at the Capitol to undermine a legitimate and fair election into consideration and will be pausing political giving from our Political Action Committee to those who voted against certification of the election,” Marriott spokeswoman Connie Kim said, confirming a report in Popular Information, a political newsletter.

BCBSA, the federation of 36 independent companies that provide health care coverage for one in three Americans, said “in light of this week’s violent, shocking assault on the United States Capitol, and the votes of some members of Congress to subvert the results of November’s election by challenging Electoral College results, BCSBA will suspend contributions to those lawmakers who voted to undermine our democracy.”

JPMorgan Chase said Sunday it will pause all contributions from its political action committee for at least the next six months, saying “the focus of business leaders, political leaders, civic leaders right now should be on governing and getting help to those who desperately need it most right now. There will be plenty of time for campaigning later.”

22. Hallmark Asks Sens. Hawley and Marshall to Return Donations Over Post-Riot Election Challenges
Mon Jan 11, 2021, 09:22 PM
Jan 2021

Hallmark, based in Kansas City, Missouri, has asked Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley and Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall to return its political donations.

"HALLPAC, Hallmark's political action committee, supports elected leaders from a wide variety of viewpoints–including Democrats, Republicans and Independents," said a statement from a Hallmark representative.

The statement continued: "Hallmark believes the peaceful transition of power is part of the bedrock of our democratic system, and we abhor violence of any kind. The recent actions of Senators Josh Hawley and Roger Marshall do not reflect our company's values. As a result, HALLPAC requested Sens. Hawley and Marshall to return all HALLPAC campaign contributions."

In the last two years, according to the representative, HALLPAC donated $7,000 to Hawley and $5,000 Marshall.

Google joins Microsoft and Facebook in freezing all political contributions following the Capitol siege

Google is joining other major companies in halting political contributions after a pro-Trump mob violently stormed the US Capitol building.

Google joins Microsoft and Facebook, who also announced on Monday they would halt all political donations and would reassess contributions. The suspensions come within a week of a mob breaking into the US Capitol building, causing violence that led to at least five deaths and dozens of arrests.

"We have frozen all NetPAC political contributions while we review and reassess its policies following last week's deeply troubling events," Jose Castaneda, Google spokesperson, told Insider.
