Capitol cop 'kills himself' 3 days after fellow officer was killed by rioters during Congress siege
Source: DailyMail UK
A US Capitol Police officer has reportedly died by suicide three days after the force was thrown into chaos when Donald Trump's supporters stormed Congress.
Officer Howard Liebengood, 51, died while off-duty on Saturday, the USCP announced in a statement.
Unconfirmed social media reports claimed that Liebengood took his own life. The USCP did not disclose a cause of death.
Liebengood is the second Capitol Police officer to die in the days after Trump supporters stormed the building in a bid to block the certification of Joe Biden's election victory.

Second U.S. Capitol Police officer dies
In a statement issued Sunday morning, U.S. Capitol Police did not link Howard Liebengoods death while off duty to Wednesdays deadly insurrection on Capitol Hill.
The United States Capitol Police is deeply saddened by the off-duty death on January 9, 2021, of Officer Howard Liebengood, the agency said. He was assigned to the Senate Division, and has been with the Department since April 2005. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.
USCP did not specify the cause of Liebengoods death. He was 51.

(673 posts)I don't think we need to explain his death as a sign of a conspiracy. We simply lack sufficient information to understand why this happened. If it was due to suicide, I could certainly understand why the events of that day might trigger a crisis within in which death is perceived as the best way to stop the pain.

Just curious - has anybody heard them say anything about this yet?
Seems to me that this is an important development here.

(3,207 posts)Officer Howard Liebengood, 51, died on Saturday while off-duty, the department announced in a statement.
He was assigned to the Senate Division, and has been with the Department since April 2005, the statement read. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.
We ask that his family, and other USCP officers and their families privacy be respected during this profoundly difficult time.
The department did not disclose the circumstances of Liebengoods death, but outlets and reporters including Jake Sherman, of Punchbowl News, said that the lawman took his own life, citing sources.

(26,271 posts)whether or not it's been reported on the Cable News Channels like CNN & MSNBC.
Seems to me this is significant. Might be part of the Weds story or might not be. But don't you think these channels should at least mention it?
MSNBC just commented on the Officer that died in the riot at the Capitol - but no mention of another Capitol Police officer that committed suicide. Why?

Howard Liebengood and his wife
Capitol Police officer Howard Liebengood, the second officer to die in the wake of the Capitol riots, was remembered for his friendly demeanor as he protected Congress. He was the son of a powerful sergeant of arms in the Senate and lobbyist with ties to many prominent politicians.
His death was confirmed by the Capitol Police in a news release, although they did not release a cause of death. However, Punchbowl News reported, via sources, that the cause of death was suicide.
The United States Capitol Police is deeply saddened by the off-duty death on January 9, 2021, of Officer Howard Liebengood, age 51, the Capitol police news release, dated January 10, says.
The death comes just days after multiple Capitol police officers were injured and one, Brian Sicknick, died as a result of the Capitol riots. Capitol police received withering criticism for lack of security in the wake of that; its not clear, however, whether the Capitol riots played any role in Liebengoods death or where he was working at that time.
Heres what you need to know about the life and death of Howard Liebengood:

Two law enforcement officials told The Washington Post that Liebengood, 51, died by suicide over the weekend, days after being on the scene of Wednesdays violent siege of the Capitol building by a pro-Trump mob.
Statements by the Capitol Police and its union did not release a cause or date of death for Liebengood, who had been with the department since April 2005 and was assigned to the Senate Division.
