is it okay to show up for the Hands Off protest without signing up?

If I tell other people about this and they show up there is that okay? Or should they sign up?

The email I got back encouraged people to bring others along.

The signing up part was more about getting time and place.

I think the sign-up was to get an idea of how many are coming, and to compile an email list for future use.

no reason given.

But I live on a busy road, and I am going to make a big sign (using the back of my big Harris/Walz sigh)

HANDS OFF MY SOCIAL SECURITY

And put it where all who pass can see it.

Heavy rain and storms possible tomorrow. We have rain ponchos, and our signs are in large clear storage bags. As ready to go as we can be!

but I've got a poncho and umbrella ready. My signs might not last but they should be fine as long as it's not a big downpour.

One of the orgs asked for my name and email, which I gave. But that’s just for contact purposes — nobody’s taking attendance. Show up, make new friends.

The only problem I have at the moment is the evident lack of organization here — where I lived before I participated in a ton of anti-BushCheney resistance, and if someone announced a rally & march starting at a date and time you could bet it would be happening. If a variety of groups were co-ordinating, same thing.

Here, to my bafflement, I have received a number of contradictory emails with links, ultimately leaving me with the impression that two rallies will take place in one small city, one from 10-12 and the other from 11-1, miles apart. Or maybe only one rally. Somewhere.

So I’m going to go to the location announced for 10am, and presuming anyone’s there I will ask questions to see if anyone is in charge. I’ll be wearing a political t-shirt and a sun-hat, and carrying a home-made sign.

Enjoy!
