This shit is getting out of hand.
It's only a matter of time before someone is killed.
For 10 years, the 82nd Avenue of Roses Business Association has kicked off the city of Portlands annual Rose Festival with a family-friendly parade meant to attract crowds to its diverse neighborhood.
Set to march in the parades 67th spot this year was the Multnomah County Republican Party, a fact that so outraged two self-described antifascist groups in the deep blue Oregon city that they pledged to protest and disrupt the April 29 event.
Then came an anonymous and ominous email, according to parade organizers, that instructed them to cancel the GOP groups registration or else.
You have seen how much power we have downtown and that the police cannot stop us from shutting down roads so please consider your decision wisely, the anonymous email said, referring to the violent riots that hit Portland after the 2016 presidential election, reported the Oregonian. This is nonnegotiable.
The email said that 200 people would rush into the parade and drag and push those marching with the Republican Party

(694 posts)The parade being referenced is a parade to bring attention to 82nd Avenue retailers and East Portland neighborhoods. It is not the official Rose Parade.
That being said, the reporting over this is being hyped and used against "the left", in general, rather than the disruptors.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)The Multnomah County Republicans haven't released the threats they allegedly received, so it's difficult to evaluate their seriousness or provenance. I have heard that these alleged threats were made in response to a rumor that the Republicans were planning to fill out their parade contingent with latter day nazis.
But because this small parade happens in a Portland neighborhood that is routinely underserved by the city (full disclosure: I live there), the parade was canceled and gives the appearance of knuckling under to threats, something the City would never do in other parts of town.

(2,396 posts)I read a comment on the Portland sub-Reddit that last year the gop contigent was a bunch of old white guys marching along and yelling Trump! Trump! to the heavily diverse immigrant families lining the sidewalks. And that this really brought the happy mood down.
So if that's true, the seeds of the alleged threats may have been planted then.

(37,159 posts)Will Republicans do the right thing and stop this nonsense by coming out against the alt-right AKA Dylan Roof Faction?
And the "alt right" version of Antifa has a name - they're called "The Proud Boys":

And if you can guess that their goal is getting drunk and acting like animals at protests, you are right!

(4,451 posts)Asian-American business owners on SE 82nd ave wanting anything to do with "Proud Boys." Sounds like they injected themselves to me.
