German Zentralrat der Juden is worried about Ukrainian anti-semitism

http://www.handelsblatt.com/politik/international/zentralrat-der-juden-besorgnis-ueber-antisemitismus-in-der-ukraine/9603864.html (in German)

In two weeks, Prawy Sektor, the extreme right party which is part of the new Ukrainian government, will take part in a "congress" of European right-wing extremists, organized by "Junge Nationaldemokraten, i.e. German Neo-Nazis.

So much for Jews accepting the anti-semitic stance of the new Ukrainian government.

There was a story about some Ukrainian Jewish leaders saying that they are not worried about anti-semitism in the new Ukrainian government, and Russia needs to butt out.

That story, whatever its merits or lack thereof, is not sensibly countered by a statement that somebody in a different country holds an opinion of their own.

because what's going on in Ukraine is emboldening neo-Nazis groups in Europe and Germany is particularly sensitive to that. Even in the US. All you have to do is stop by any of the White Nationalist sites and they're cheering Maiden on for having the courage to display their White Power emblems and nazi pride.

Good for the German Jewish Central Committee but where are all the other groups for minority rights because it's not just Jews they hate, Arabs and Blacks are openly depicted like monkeys in mainstream newspapers. Mums the word I guess. Mums the word about a Svoboda MPs trying to shut down a Feminist/Lesbian march last year because "homosexuality provokes sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS". What great new friends.

Ukrainian newspaper depicts Africans and Arabs as monkeys groping woman

A local newspaper in the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil illustrated its front-page story on Tuesday with a photomontage of monkeys groping a woman to depict African and Arab men who had allegedly gotten into a bar fight. Our Observer, a Congolese student living in Ternopil, tells us this has deeply upset African students at his university, who he says are frequently the target of racist attacks.

Nova Ternopil's article explains that police had to intervene after an African man and an Arab man got into a fight involving a woman at a local bar on the weekend. The headline reads, “Arabs and negroes fight over our prostitutes.” The photomontage shows two monkeys groping a white woman in the foreground. In the background, a group of black men are sitting around a table, having a drink. According to our Observer, the men pictured are students at a local university and had nothing to do with the alleged incident.

You mean there are bigots living in Ukraine?!?!?!?

That's horrible.

I'm glad I'm living in the United States of America, where there is absolutely no bigotry whatsoever.

Why, that Svoboda MP was almost as bad as . . . Vladimir Putin.

Ukrainian Jewish Committee: Russian claims of anti-Semitism in Crimea are lies, propaganda

Russian Jewish leader urges silence over Crimea

Apprehension grips the Crimean Jewish community

Wie antisemitisch sind die Maidan-Demonstranten? (takeaway: antisemitism used by both sides, but Ukrainian Jews are cautiously supportive of the change in government.)

La Russie contre Maïdan (takeaway: Yanukovitch's government also used antisemitic slurs to discredit protesters)

We Jews feel vulnerable around times of political turmoil, and with good reason. However, using that to pick winners and losers is really no better than Republicans who claim that affirmative action and abortion and types of discrimination against African-Americans.

And if anyone is concerned about the treatment of minorities in Urkaine, even in Crimea, demand the safe entry of monitors.

... Unfortunately, we must admit that in recent days stability in our country has been threatened. And this threat is coming from the Russian government, namely – from you personally. It is your policy of inciting separatism and crude pressure placed on Ukraine that threatens us and all Ukrainian people, including those who live in Crimea and the Ukrainian South-East. South-eastern Ukrainians will soon see that for themselves. ...
