Have you noticed any perceivable difference in the state since the voters have passed the new marijuana law?
My experience:
No perceivable difference good or bad. Where I live, you wouldn't even know that the law had passed. I don't see any difference in the parks, at the store, driving, going to the movies. I don't see bands of glossy eyed folks walking down the street. I have yet to smell the odor on people while going to public places. I see no unusual or irrational behavior. I don't read newspaper articles about pot induced "incidents".
It is like it never even happened, yet, I talk to folks that say they smoke it, typically at night, in the privacy of their backyard.
Honestly, for me, you wouldn't even know that such a law was passed.
What is your experience?

(26,470 posts)But seriously...I find it is more readily available, although our source is a friend with a "green card" (medical marijuana..legal for some time now) .
I do feel more open about it - have to constantly remind myself it is legal now! Don't actually know what the details of the law are, beyond legal to have a small amount.
More in attitude than observation, in my experience.

(15,359 posts)me he got some crap about smoking weed on the golf course of the small town he lives by. He told the manager or whatever his title is to fuck off. He's got the card.

No sign of reefer madness anywhere.

(2,424 posts)They (and Colorado residents) are the standard bearers. There is much responsibility upon our collective shoulders. We must demonstrate sustained acceptable behavior.
We are grass roots ALEC. We created a "model bill" for others to emulate.
I congratulate our great state on this.

(2,424 posts)I do not use marijuana and have not actively looked for business that sells it. I talked to a person that uses a card to buy it, but uses it as recreational. He claims that the big difference is the accessibility of paraphernalia to use pot. He also claims that people he hangs out with are getting medical cards more frequently.
I simply don't know about retail sales. Have not tried to purchase any.

(13,184 posts)That part has already happened. What is yet to happen is for the state-regulated marijuana retail outlets to open. I think that's going to happen early next year, after the Washington State Liquor Control Board gets the rules and regulations all figured out.
You don't need a medical card to legally possess up to an ounce, but you would need one to grow or to go purchase at a medical dispensary (or collective or whatever they call them up there).
Once the pot shots are open, the medical card becomes redundant--except for growing your own. Washington's legalization doesn't include the right to grow your own plants, but Washington pot patients will still be able to.

(5,477 posts)My friend likes to grow other things...tomatoes, peppers, etc... so there's a good chance she'd like to grow her own cannabis, too. Good thing she went ahead and got her card.

(13,184 posts)The only real difference, I suppose, is that no one is getting arrested for pot possession.
