As federal authorities crack down on the far right after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, the movements leaders have found new sources of suspicion: each other.
In the Trumpist America First movement and the far-right paramilitary group the Proud Boys, alliances are fracturing as extremists brand each other as potential informants. Now racist live-streamers are accusing their former comrades of attempting to turn over followers to law enforcement, while Proud Boys chapters are splintering from the national organization over similar fears.

Declaring the aftermath of the Capitol riot a million times worse for the far right than the crackdown that followed the fatal white supremacist rally in Charlottesville in 2017, Casey claimed, without offering evidence, that Fuentes bank accounts have been frozen by federal authorities. He also accused Fuentes of planning to drive cross-country, rather than fly, to the Florida conference because he suspected he was on the federal no-fly list, then concealing that possibility from his followers.
Worst of all, Casey argued, Fuentes planned to gather all of his supporters in Orlando, where they could be easily recorded by federal investigators or informants. He went on to suggest America Firsts members would see the conference for what he thinks it could be: an FBI trap.

(7,794 posts)Trump needs the money. Can't sell his name. It's running at negative value in most markets. For reasons he can't understand, his plan to live off the generosity of his children is not panning out either. His properties (what real interest he actually controls) are depreciating faster than Melania's credit score and he's got planes pulling messages across the sky offering advice about his options, none of which he can monetize. He has no marketable skill and a reputation for poor work habits, leaving him unemployable. His business plan is definitely at the juncture where his easiest profit potential lies in betrayal of his supporters. I mean, after all "freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose", right?

(18,878 posts)And once that starts, how long before they start suspecting that maybe, just maybe, Dear Leader has started selling them out and disposing of the non-performing assets?
It's a good tactic, hope it does a lot of damage.

(7,794 posts)So long as there are laws, there will be people to break them. So long as fear is motivation to sit and worry, terrorists will be around to play on it.

(16,381 posts)engaging in terrorism or sedition if the FBI and DOJ really put the hammer down on these assholes. Most of these idiots arent as determined as we might think. Most have jobs, families maybe. They dont want to go against the government once it gets real. There will still be some who commit terrorism but the number will be reduced.

(23,537 posts)The same things that made attracting new members online for them have made infiltration easy. It's all online, it's all anonymous, it's easy. And above being infiltrated by the authorities or left leaning groups looking to report them, there's a lot of false leaders in their ranks, people egging them on that are not really all in and are just doing it for kicks. One major Q leader whose online persona was named "The Commander" and pretending to be ex military in the know, turned out to be a 13 year old kid just looking for attention.
The FBI has been warning about these groups for years, the last administration did little to prevent this extremism, that will change now. Bottom line is that these groups need to stop planning terrorist attacks and stop promoting violence, if they don't they're going to be shutdown and/or arrested.
