WASHINGTON (AP) U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of President Donald Trumps closest allies in Congress and a longtime advocate of direct confrontation with Iran, died Saturday evening after a brief and sudden illness, his office said in statement posted on social media.
The office did not provide any additional details about the South Carolina Republican, who was 71 years old.
Senator Grahams family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period, the statement said.

Graham especially advised the president on foreign policy matters such as Iran and Russia, and had just announced an agreement on Friday with the Trump administration to move forward on a package of Russia sanctions.
Graham had been in Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who acknowledged the senators 10th visit to the country and thanked him for recognizing our warriors.

(35,106 posts)And, speaking of awful people with redeeming qualities, I hope there's an afterlife, and that he meets up with his old buddy, John McCain, who would likely kick ol' Lindsey's ass into oblivion.

(15,344 posts)Maybe Putin was tired of his influence on Trump concerning Russia.
and if he was poisoned, would the administration let the truth out about it?
The assassination of a U.S. Senator would demand a forceful (military?) response
if the public knew about it.

(2,424 posts)Earlier it was "brief and sudden" illness. Now it's "brief and unexpected illness". Their stupidity just stirs the pot of speculation and questioning.
Damn Republicans just can't tell the truth, even at a time like this.

(14,870 posts)He was an absolute prick toward Pres Biden and his son when Biden was president -- after decades of fostering a friendship with him and talking about what a wonderful person and public servant he was.
So issue statements, if you need to, about his years of service and I guess what a patriot he was or whatever pablum you think is appropriate, but FFS spare me the discourse about how honorable and reasonable he was. Leave that bullshit for Meghan McCain.

(2,477 posts)Well, fiddle-dee-dee! I do declare, the tyrannical midsummer heavens have seen fit to unleash a suffocating, gelatinous blanket of oppressive, sweltering heat upon this day, threatening to reduce someone of my delicate sensibilities to utter ruin.
I must take extra care of my pristine porcelain visage... which is normally as smooth and pale as the finest imported alabaster... as it will undoubtedly begin to glisten with the most uninvited, microscopic beads of perspiration. Sweating is so dreadfully lower class, but I fear I shall soon be glowing like the morning dew on a ripe Georgia peach.
Thus, I must execute a strategic retreat and place my weary frame upon the cushioned sanctuary of the wicker porch swing, safely nestled beneath the deep, protective shadows of the grand veranda on the blessed, sun-deprived flank of the manor.
There, I shall relax and listen to the birds singing while a cool and gentle breeze rushes over my fevered brow. These simple pleasures only add to my boundless joy as I celebrate today's surprising news, raising a delicious mint julep to my parched lips and allowing the sugary, bourbon-infused elixir and crushed ice to resurrect my fainting Southern spirit.
After all, the Lord certainly works in mysterious, downright beautiful ways when cleaning His earthly house! Such unexpected and most welcome tidings deserve that we all celebrate with another splash of bourbon. After all, tomorrow is another daybut today, we can just sit back, enjoy the breathtaking beauty of a restored view, and toast to a much brighter future.

(2,477 posts)... or the constant and abject fear that he was about to be exposed. People have been saying, and I've been reading online... that there are receipts (so to speak). Having something like that hanging over one's head must surely take a toll on one's mental health and their physical health too. After all, it can't be easy being blackmailed and living under the constant fear of making the wrong step or saying the wrong thing and being exposed by his handlers.
Honestly, his death comes as no surprise to me. The only surprise, frankly, is that it wasn't a "fall down the stairs" or a tragic outcome as he was cleaning a shotgun.
That son of a bitch will not be missed. Good riddance to bad trash. I pray that the Lord above continues to clean house!

I couldn't stand the mf'er but this is so suspicious. I could see how pOOtin would take offense by that statement. I'm sure there are russki operatives here in the states with the US "intelligence" services being compromised by the fat orange imbecile.
