Trump called the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool “filthy” and set out to fix it. He then handed the job worth around $15 million—eight times what he promised—with no bidding to a company that had never held a federal contract, but had done work at one of his own golf clubs.
Days after they completed the project, the pool turned swamp-green—an algae bloom any expert could’ve predicted—and the fresh paint peeled off in sheets. By the weekend he gave up and the contractor confirmed that the whole project has to be redone.
Instead of owning it, he went after the people who noticed. Park Police arrested multiple people, including a man who merely touched the peeling liner—and Trump demanded years in jail for crimes that didn’t happen.
Trump wanted a monument to himself. It turned into proof he can’t be trusted with a paint job, let alone a country.
