I live in, so many shootings start with arguments unrelated to gangs. It’s become just horrifying. The arguments are usually over such minor stuff.

I suppose it is possible that two groups of people show up at a mall armed and ready to start blasting over an argument that aren't gangs. Probably the PTA officers from a couple of different schools beefing over a charity car wash spot.

I prefer "The Warriors" version.

Might be rival storefront mall church parishioners arguing about where "Sacred Heart" and "King of the World" is supposed to be positioned in the 15 word title of their particular sect.

Or an overheated Chevy vs. Ford discussion.
In the South, that can be the difference between accepting an invitation to a date...

Sorry for being facetious, but yeah, "gang rivalry' has a lot of dog whistles associated with the term.
On edit, Louisiana has very lax gun laws.
They have permitless concealed carry, so long as you can prove you're not a felon.

Pointed him in the direction of the Leland shooting last year. I searched and couldn't find anything gang related to that incident.

Mississippi had five shootings related to High-school football last year. I couldn't find anything that suggested gangs or drugs as in his reply to me.

It was a teenager that passed. Sounds more like high-school rivalry to me.

They take their sports seriously in the south.
