Trump exposed in latest White House East Wing court filing: analysis

This is mind blowing to me. The DOJ let trump draft part of the filing in the trump ballroom appeal. It is clear that trump drafted a good amount of this brief. I have trouble imaging any attorney who would put their name on this filing

Donald Trump may have partly written the most recent White House East Wing court filing with his legal team, an analyst has claimed.

Trump has faced a series of legal challenges against his White House renovations, particularly a $400 million ballroom project and the refurbishing of the Eisenhower Building's exterior. A legal team working for Trump asked an appeals court yesterday (April 3) for an emergency ruling, which, if granted, would allow construction on the East Wing to continue.

The documents making the argument to the appeals court appear to have been partly written by the president himself, according to CBS News' Arden Farhi.

He wrote, "The opening pages of the court filing are loaded with exclamation points ('Time is of the essence!'), parenthetical asides, misplaced capital letters ('Almost 400 Million Dollars of private donations'), and multiple adjectives for emphasis ('shocking, unprecedented, and improper injunction') – all rhetorical flourishes of the president's online posts.

"One sentence runs 130 words and covers more than half a page. 'Private donors and American Patriots singlehandedly funded the 300 to 400 Million Dollar project (depending on finishes), which is on budget and ahead of schedule.

"'No taxpayer dollars are being used for the funding of this beautiful, desperately needed, and completely secure (for national security purposes) ballroom,' the filing reads."

Brilliant resistance strategy - malicious compliance with Trump's desire to write the appeal. There is hope...

I mean, yeah, he also wants a gaudy building on the WH grounds named after himself, but more than anything I think he wants the excuse of construction noise to spend the next couple years living at his club instead of the WH.

They argue that since they already have started the project, they should be allowed to finish. Never mind laws, protocol, respect for the people who actually own the White House.

snip

In granting this shocking, unprecedented, and improper injunction, one that could have been sought long ago, prior to the start of construction (in that there was full knowledge, through large scale media attention and publicity, that the White House ballroom was planned to be built, and there would have been a great deal of time for them to object, long before the start of construction, even though their objection would likewise have been baseless and frivolous), the district court took the erroneous, sweeping view that Congress did not authorize the ballroom construction at the White House—yet correctly allows construction “necessary to ensure the safety and security of the White House and its grounds, including the ballroom construction site, and provide for the personal safety of the President and his staff.”

snip

Effing moron doesn't have the slightest idea on how to construct a legal or any other kind of argument.

I am absolutely convinced the attorneys have adopted the strategy of letting him destroy himself. He is his own best enemy.

I have read more and am delighted to tell you there are many 130-word sentences.

Wah!!!!

I'm gonna' run to the Supreme Court!!! Wahh!!!

The government respectfully requests a stay pending
appeal and (at least) a 14-day stay if this Court denies relief, so the
Solicitor General may seek emergency relief from the Supreme Court.

trump evidently got too bored after the first five pages of this filing.

The Washington Post did not call trump out for the first five pages but noted that these pages were not legal arguments but "closely resembles Trump‘s charged remarks and social media posts about the ballroom"

Trump files emergency appeal to keep building White House ballroom - The Washington Post

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/04/04/trump-ballroom-appeal-emergency/

“Time is of the essence!” Justice Department lawyers wrote, saying that the planned 90,000-square-foot addition to the White House is being designed to defend against “hostile attacks via drones, ballistic missiles, bullets, biohazards” and other potential threats to the president. They also argued that Trump has the authority to build the ballroom, disputing Leon’s ruling that the project requires congressional approval.

The tone of the administration’s 27-page filing — particularly its first five pages — departs from the usual style for federal appellate briefs, which typically focus on legal arguments. Instead, the language closely resembles Trump‘s charged remarks and social media posts about the ballroom, which the president has identified as a personal priority. The appeal invokes the “American Patriots” who have made donations for the project, lists various materials being used to construct it and repeats Trump’s frequent boasts that the project is under budget and ahead of schedule.

“No taxpayer dollars are being used for the funding of this beautiful, desperately needed, and completely secure (for national security purposes) ballroom,” the Justice Department lawyers wrote, defending Trump’s decision to solicit private donations. Leon said that Trump was attempting an “end-run” around Congress by relying on private funding.

Here is another lawyer noting the style of the first couple of pages are written the style of trump's truth social posts

Trump has filed an emergency appeal to keep building his planned White House ballroom, saying it's a matter of national security.

The motion — particularly the first five pages — is unusually written for an appellate brief, and often resembles Trump's Truth Social posts.

I am shocked that any lawyer would sign their name to this filing

They are desperate to make a case. This part is written by the lawyers, but OMD, it is so lacking:

snip

1. Congress has authorized appropriations to the President for
“the care, maintenance, repair, alteration, refurnishing, improvement,
air-conditioning, heating, and lighting … of the Executive Residence at
the White House.” 3 U.S.C. § 105(d)(1) (emphases added).

snip

Yes, they are trying to call bulldozing the East Wing an ALTERATION.

Later on they discuss the construction of certain buildings under NPS, but I would have to look each one up to see what the circumstances were.
