My father and I pulled into our drive and heard it on the radio.

I looked at my dad and said, "Well, that's one less n****!

From that moment, I NEVER heard any more racist bullshit at home.

I left in '73 and never looked back. The Marines fixed the rest.

Teach your children well, parents!

MLK was harassed by the govt and treated poorly in the press and TV. He kept going though. Hero.

Think of the changes we could have if he and other good liberals on the right side of history weren't always being eliminated by the fascists on the wrong side of history.

This was the beginning of the end of the New Deal coalition formed in 1932 and one of the biggest turning points in US History.

2026 is the best chance in years to re-form that coalition! Vote in numbers so big that the Republicans are out of power in both houses!

I was a white boy living in southeast D. C. at the time. My mother kept me home from my largely Black junior high school the next day. The shopping center a couple of blocks from my house was torched following the assassination. We had a busload of National Guard troops pull up in front of our house along with multiple cop cars after a car failed to make the curve in front of our house and crashed just next door; the driver ran into an adjacent apartment building while the woman in the passenger seat moved into the driver's seat. We never found out what that was all about. My Naval Academy brother and his Naval Academy buddies broke curfew to drive downtown to rescue young women who were staying at a hotel in town as their dates for the end of year events at the Naval Academy. There was a lone National Guardsman stationed at the end of the block for a week afterwards. My family and I gave up and moved to suburban Maryland four months later.
