To all members of the Trans community ...

You have far more friends than enemies.
People you've never met care about you, will protect you and will show you love and forever stand by you.
Don't shrink from the hate; defy it, no matter your age.

Happy Day of Visibility, my friends.

Thank you for this. Messages of solidarity are vital for marginalized communities. However, true friendship also requires us to hold our own spaces to a higher standard. We can’t truly stand by the Trans community if we continue to tolerate language, "humor," misgendering, or photoshopped imagery that relies on gender-based ridicule just because the target is a political enemy. We undermine our own advocacy when we do that, or when we fail to speak out against it.

It is disheartening when those who point out this inconsistency are gaslit or told they are "too sensitive." If we want to be the "friends" this post describes, we have to stop excusing toxic tropes when they’re convenient and start listening when people tell us that certain language (no matter who it's aimed at) causes real harm.

I'm so tired of running across this crap on DU and other progressive spaces, calling it out and being cis- or straight-splained about how it is perfectly fine, as long as the target is someone we don't like - or that it is just calling out hypocrisy.

I can only imagine the toll of actually living that reality every day. It's deeply disheartening when various progressive spaces (the very places that should know better) end up silencing or dismissing the people who call out unfortunate double standards. It’s the "cis-splaining" and the hostility and the selective outrage that makes it so draining. It feels like some people are more interested in protecting a particular narrative than they are in protecting the actual human beings involved, or in acknowledging how hurtful it all is. I really appreciate you speaking up in support.

The fight for free expression and bodily autonomy extends to everyone. If they can control trans people, they will control everyone else next, in time.

You get the message anyway.

Someone might find or remember the song.

ON EDIT:

I could hear it in my head, but couldn't place it.

Thanks to lonely bird.

Close enough.
