Congressional Cowards is a weekly series highlighting the worst Donald Trump defenders on Capitol Hill, who refuse to criticize himno matter how disgraceful or lawless his actions.
If vulnerable GOP lawmakers wanted to show they won't be a rubber stamp for President Donald Trump's least popular policies, voting to cancel his destructive tariffswhich have raised prices for American consumers and hampered the job marketwould have been an easy place to start.
Tariffs are overwhelmingly unpopular, with large majorities disapproving of the policy and saying that the Supreme Court should negate the tariffs.
Yet on Wednesday night, 97% of House Republicansincluding a number of the most vulnerable lawmakers in the 2026 midtermsvoted against ending Trump's lawless levies on imported goods from Canada, caving to threats from their Dear Leader who has admitted to using tariffs to try to get his way with foreign leaders. A day earlier, just three House Republicans broke rank to even reclaim their own power to set tariffs.

(18,039 posts)Trump is scheduled to deliver this year's State of the Union address on February 24. Many believe the SC will rule against his tariffs. Given his precarious mental state, and all the shit going on in recent months, Trump's SOTU spectacle mignt be worth watching.

(18,039 posts)No doubt corporate media will spend more time showing fawning Republican representatives clawing at him as he enters the chamber - obsequiously hoping to catch his eye, shake his pudgy little hand and receive a bit of public approval, and more importantly, be seen doing so by their MAGA constituents - than they will discussing the many stupidities he will utter.

(20,681 posts)It's going to hard with republicans employing voter suppression but we have to get out enough votes to counter their efforts.
From there we can hold the Oval Office accountable.
