They have a website with a code that you can enter and answer personal questions.
There are several questions that ask if you are of Hispanic culture? Are you sure?
The questions seemed very political and witchhunt-oriented to me.
They did not seem to be looking for information as much as looking for someone that ICE could investigate?

(15,220 posts)Part of the background Ethnicity section -
Are you Hispanic (White) or are you Hispanic (Non-White)?
Also have seen "Are you from Puerto Rico, the Marianas, Guam, or American Samoa" on the Census form under the Citizenship/Residence section.
They also ask about profession and/or employment status.
Asking about citizenship status or ethnic background is a political question, true, but has always been generally looked at in terms of providing a neutral baseline for a wide range of population policy planning or initiatives across all government entities (from local to Federal) and political parties.
I don't think it's a particularly politically loaded census question, but the answer can be abused by this mis-Administration.

(15,206 posts)And why you would voluntarily go to some site (government or otherwise) to answer personal questions. But - best of my knowledge, the 'census' doesn't happen for another 3-4 years.

(6,562 posts)It was doing a deep-dive on my very existence, with one of the least intrusive things they asked being what time I left for and arrived back from work. I called them and flat refused to answer that and even more personal questions. If I recall correctly, I was given the standard form to complete.
I've yet to receive the 2026 form.

(101,181 posts)Surveys taken in between the decennial census most of us are familiar with that comes every ten years. These interim surveys are for demographic info in between the ten year thing. Lats of stats we hear about come from these surveys, albeit taken with far smaller participant pools.

(101,181 posts)The census data taken every ten years is used to assess how many House Reps your state sends to Congress and how much federal $$ goes to your schools and other public services in your location?
If you aren't counted, you are slighting yourself and your community.
When I get mine, I answer the most important questions and leave the rest blank. I have worked the census before and I didn't complete the survey, just answered the questions I felt were needed to make the data line up with the community I was in. Other more personal stuff, I don't answer those.

(4,057 posts)I understand that I'm obviously here and that if I were within a societal construct that desired to count me they would and they will.
I vote, I'm available for jury duty, I work actively within my community.
Personally I say fuck The Census in the majority of it's past incarnations and it's current incarnation.
The Census is intended to limit representation.
That's the entire purpose.
If the purpose of The Census was to ensure representation the majority of the data points would be pulled from existing relevant data public data sets.
I do not conclude that is the case, hence, I do what I do and what I don't do I encourage each to choose for their self.

(40,498 posts)When my wife and I lived in a rougher neighborhood than we do now we had a neighbor who'd typically answer her door holding a gun, telling strangers to get the hell off her property.
The census takers came to our door a little shaken.
My own grandma was a similar sort. She was eventually removed from her home as a danger to herself and others. Some of my grandma's neighbors loved her, others were terrified of her.
I'd be curious to see how I was counted for the 1980 census. Nobody then ever knew where I might be, including myself. I was Schrödinger's cat scattered through a multiverse of many boxes.

(26,724 posts)a head count, the Community Survey is a way to determine *how* people are living in this country, which is why it feels a little more "invasive."

(4,057 posts)Selective enforcement of repurposed statutes while redefining the legal terms within such seems to be a large part of the current operating methodologies of The Turd Reich.
DHS, CPB and ICE actions across our nation are the most prominent evidence of such, although the examples are replete throughout our nation's long and sordid history of enshrining delusional malevolence as the law of the land.
Here's to the restoration of our freedoms through our nation's iterative return to reason's rule.

(4,427 posts)The 2026 Census Test is the U.S. Census Bureau's first major opportunity to try out new tools and methods in two locations around the United States. This operational test in support of the 2030 Census will help us improve how we will count everyone in the country in 2030.
It is the first of two on-the-ground tests we conduct in preparation for the 2030 Census.
The public will start responding to the test in Spring 2026. You will be able to respond online. Census takers and some postal workers will follow up with households that dont respond to collect responses in person.
Test Locations
The Census Bureau has announced changes to the 2026 Census Test. This operational test in support of the 2030 Census will focus on operations in two test site locations. The Census Bureau remains committed to conducting the most accurate count in history for the 2030 Census and looks forward to the continued partnership with local communities.
