This would be IF the Democrats get back the Presidency and the Congress in 2028.
No matter how bad Trump and the Republicans destroy America in the next 3 years. No matter what the Democrats do to fix it in the 2 years that follow.
The idiot American voters will give back at least one Chamber of Congress, if not both in 2030.
Because they keep doing that over and over again.
1994, 2010, 2022...rinse and repeat.

(37,370 posts)over 60% of the voters now see Trump as an awful President. But more than half of those will forget this in a few years.
As they always do.

(11,837 posts)The country hated Nixon after he resigned. I don't see a Nixon love fest in this country right now and haven't seen one any time since he left office.

(13,282 posts)The crazy amount of money rich republicans are spending, the propaganda machine we have now. And a supreme court that doesn't follow the law. And I fully believe they have found ways to steal a lot ofvotes from us. The times we win I Think they let us because we always fix their messes.
The MAGATS and regular Republicans even after being bitten by his horrendous policies still back him and his handlers.

(10,865 posts)Democrats need a higher turnout rate.....laziness, despair, better things to do has become the norm among many Dems. If every black and Hispanic registered voter in the South actually showed up to vote in every election, then along with the whites who vote Democrat, Republicans would never win again, except in heavily gerrymandered or legitimately majority white districts.
Republicans appeal to racism, sexism and pretend to appeal to conservative religious values, that will not change anytime soon so. This is where the 18-29 vote becomes so important. They have grown up in a more diverse society, tend to be less prejudice, and less religiously affiliated.
I think, similar to after the George W. Bush administration, the Trump admin. will be considered so bad that whomever the Dem candidate is will have a very good chance....at least I hope so. ☮

(37,370 posts)But like 2010, after Obama saved our asses, the voters turned back to the GOP.
Remember the Tea Party bullshit?

(6,713 posts)It's why Obama dominated in 2008 and 2012, but we got crushed in 2010 and 2014.
The party's have flipped since then, now the GOP is the party of low frequency voters, which is why we dominated in 2018 and 2022, but struggled in 2016, 2024, and even 2020 was nail-bitingly close.

We should instead look at doing the most we can in the quickest way possible to advance our agenda when we regain power, future elections be damned because Republicans will inevitably win again at some point, sadly probably sooner rather than later.

(3,322 posts)We may have to start thinking past "the American voter." A lot of Gen Z are already thinking this, and want to try something new once our generation is gone. Many of them no longer believe in the postwar liberal rules-based order, believing that it's only benefitted our generation and the elites and doesn't benefit them.
We may need to do what our European allies do and narrow the range of the kind of people "the voters" can choose from. Like make the center-left party be the furthest right party allowable. Ban all right-wing parties as terrorist groups. Snuff Gen Z right-wing influencers in their cradle before their evil ideas can spread.
