November BLS Jobs report, Unemployment Climbs to 4.6%, only 64,0000 jobs created

Last edited Tue Dec 16, 2025, 10:27 AM - Edit history (1)

https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm

August revised down from -4000 to -26000. September revised down from +119,000 to +108,000.

Wage growth ground to a halt, +0.1% for November and +3.5% year over year. The Biden wage growth boom has been killed.

This is a bad report, really bad. 4.6% is above what most economists thought it would peak at.

Last 4 months of data averaging a mere 10,250 jobs a month. And that's with October missing which was certainly a negative month. I remember the freakout when Biden's jobs reports would be less than 150,000 jobs added in a month, Trump had less than that for 5 months.

EDIT: Thanks to poster EdmondDantes_ I realized they did report October as -105,000 jobs. This report is a disaster!

Was trying to prevent this kind of news from getting out there.

Give it a few days, they'll come out with a revised report that says 8 trillion new jobs were created.

And the population is still growing, we need at least 125,000 jobs to be added a month just to keep up with new job seekers.

We haven't seen data this bad since...since Trump was President the first time. And people think, "oh, well Covid", but that's not accurate, his jobs numbers were bad before Covid hit, he just inherited a really low unemployment rate from Obama.

People will never understand how good Biden's economy was becoming for working people, the gains were all going to the bottom and middle under Biden.

But the headline number is the unexpected jump in EU rate.

I remember one month when Biden added like 140,000 jobs and the media freaked out because the expectation was for 250,000 or more. Yet here Trump is lowering expectations so much that 64,000 is seen as OK. 64,000 is half what is needed to keep UE steady, that's why we just saw UE move up to 4.6%.

Highest UE rate since 2021 when we were still recovering from the pandemic.

That's the headline on Yahoo Finance and CNN Business right now.

Biden added an average of 336,250 jobs a month over his 48 months in office. Even before Covid, Trump was averaging 165,000 a month, with Covid he went negative. This term, Trump has just an awful jobs creation record, we might be close to flat for the year.

Unusual report, so they are reporting October, but no revisions to October since it's the first report. That's a terrible report then, like really really bad.

So under Trump, we have added 499,000 jobs, or 49,900 a month. But really, those first few months were still the Biden economy. The last 7 months we have added a measly 17,000 jobs a month, that is catastrophic for the labor market.

But the number of part time workers has exploded in recent months.

This jobs report is a disaster for the economy. 64,000 total doesn't even begin to keep up with population growth. -105K in October is a disaster.

We're heading towards stagflation.

That after they corrupt the BLS and the media just goes along with all of the nonsense numbers, that the public will just sit and take it because "everything must be fine."

Propaganda is incredibly powerful, we saw that under Biden who built the best economy for working people in generations yet everyone thought the economy was terrible. And the internals of polling on the economy during Biden were pretty telling. People would say the economy was bad, inflation was out of control, and the job situation was bad, but when asked further about their own situations people would respond, "Oh, I'm doing great, saving money, working full time, retirement looking good..." I think the opposite will ring true with trump, "Oh, the economy is great, just look at the numbers, me? Well, I lost my home, I'm unemployed and standing in line for food, but things are going great with the economy so it will turn around for me."

Biden gave us real wage growth, that is when wages exceed inflation. UE was 3.7%. Savings and retirements were high. More people had health care. Crime reached 60 year lows. But the media convinced everyone none of those facts mattered, feelings did.

Overall they follow over time, but can vary month to month by quite a bit.

ADP is a payrolls company. BLS does more business surveying that is considered more accurate long run. BLS will adjust their numbers for previous months as they go.

When (not if) Trump corrupts the BLS, the ADP numbers will probably become the standard for business to follow. The thing about that though is that there are all sorts of things tied to the BLS official numbers. State and local governments tie spending and policy to the BLS unemployment rate. It gets a certain rate and certain contingencies go into effect to protect people and businesses. It's going to be a disaster.

Unemployment rate reaches a four-year high as Trump’s economic woes continue

Trump, last week: “When will I get credit for having created ... perhaps the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country?”

Reality, this week: The unemployment rate has reached a four-year high and 2025 is the worst year for job growth since the Great Recession. www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...

Steve Benen (@stevebenen.com) 2025-12-16T14:05:51.941Z

https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/unemployment-rate-reaches-a-four-year-high-as-trumps-economic-woes-continue

Expectations heading into Tuesday morning were that the economy added roughly 45,000 jobs in November. As it turns out, according to the latest BLS report, those expectations were pretty close to being right. CNBC reported:

Nonfarm payrolls grew slightly more than expected in November, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday in numbers delayed by the government shutdown. Job growth totaled 64,000 for the month. … The unemployment rate rose to 4.6%, more than expected. In addition to the November report, the BLS released an abbreviated October count that showed payrolls down 105,000.

None of this is good news. For one thing, the addition of 64,000 jobs in November reflects a weak job market that’s failing to keep up with population growth. For another, the totals from August and September were revised down, showing 33,000 fewer jobs than previously reported.

But it’s the climbing unemployment rate that really stands out: While 4.6% might seem like a decent number in the abstract, it’s also the highest jobless rate Americans have seen since September 2021. What’s more, the figure is up nearly half a point since Trump returned to office in January......

Last week, as polls showed public support for Trump’s handling of the economy sinking to embarrassing depths, the president responded with a social media message rooted in pathetic self-pity.

“When will I get credit for having created … perhaps the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country?” the Republican wrote. “When will people understand what is happening? When will Polls reflect the Greatness of America at this point in time, and how bad it was just one year ago?

This obviously isn’t the greatest economy in American history; expecting Americans to be grateful for failure is preposterous; and a year ago, the job market was generating far more jobs with a lower unemployment rate.

Indeed, the question for the president and his White House team is simple: If Trump has created “the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country,” why has American job growth slowed to a 15-year low?

rid of my federal contractor job. I can definitely say it's really bad out there since I have only been working gig jobs after getting laid off. I believe the Trump Administration is fudging the unemployment numbers and it's a lot worse than what's being reported.

in this country thanks to Sleepy Joe Biden's wide open southern border. I call him Sleepy Joe, I never sleep. Except overnight. And in the meetings. But we're closing the borders and deporting the evil criminals, the illegals and we're creating so many jobs people are saying, "please stop, that's too many jobs. You've done too good a job with the jobs." So good, we'll need to make more babies to do all your new jobs, and we'll get the babies, white babies, get the babies to do the jobs. You know who's gonna need more babies? Venezuela, because we're going to have to go down there, sometimes with military, to stop the drugs and we're going to kill all the drug dealers and maybe take the oil. And when we kill the drug dealers they'll need to have more babies to deal the drugs. Babies dealing drugs, what kind of a place are we talking about here? Venezuela is a shithole country that has drug dealing babies. Imagine a country with babies running drugs on the boats, and we'll bomb those drug boat babies. That's why I'm the best at jobs, here and in Venezuela.
