... in a right-handed world, I found it necessary to be at least somewhat ambidextrous. And sinistra is Latin for "left", and the root of the superstitious aversion to left-handed people.
When my parents moved us from Westport, CT to southern Berkshire County in Massachusetts in 1957, my new 4th grade teacher, Miss Garahan, tried to force me to become right-handed. Well, my mother was less than diplomatic when she told Miss Garahan exactly where she should shove that nonsense. I had no more trouble from Miss Garahan.

I'm glad you're mom put Miss G. in her place! It's not easy to override one's natural preference for handedness, and forced conversion leads to higher rates of dyslexia.
