He is sitting at his desk - OK, we know that he cannot stand for long time - but his guest is standing next to him almost in a subservient position.
Why couldnt both of them sit, perhaps at a different room the way it was with the Saudi, or even when they ganged on Zelenskyy? I think that he had other visitors - I cannot recall now - where both were side by side answering questions. Or is that honor reserved only to heads of states not to a mere mayor?
Again, I just found it incongruent, cannot explain..

(3,616 posts)I think Trump is the one who looked subservient, having to crane to look up at him. If Trump couldn't stand for some reason, they should have had Mamdani also sit.

(39,305 posts)I notice in almost all his recent Oval Office appearances he is sitting down.Edema in the legs and ankles makes standing painful and difficult. Sometimes causes loss of balance

(5,064 posts)Mamdani was free and moving about while trump was planted in his spot. trump looks weak, not authoritative.
Plus their good chemistry seems to have thrown the cult off balance. So for now Im seeing that as a good thing.

(6,200 posts)Mamdani was playing 3D chess, standing close enough so the pres could keep patting his arm and hand 🤮

(29,079 posts)That was not manufactured. Cuomo himself said it.
The Mayor-Elect meeting with rhe President is perfectly legitimate to do. What Ciluomo did was not. Cuomo also wss not the Democratic candidate
Nixie
(17,914 posts)stated to the media that Trumps endorsement was really against Momdani not in favor of Cuomo. It was Momdani who used Trump against Cuomo because Trump endorsed him.
BTW, repeating facts of the election timeline is not supporting Cuomo as is another accusation here.
Going after Republican voters seems to be a universal interest. Bernie sanders has been on the Joe Rogan show to talk to the young republican manosphere and everyone thinks thats brilliant.

I take Traitor backing off as a win for the Mayor elect

(16,819 posts)Believing anything regarding trump backing off to a Dem is far fetched. He thrives off the drama and pain of others. Even if his dementia allowed him to play nice his handlers will never let that happen

(8,627 posts)He made a public stand though and imo, I think it was a solid move on the chessboard.
This will go to court when the ICE/National Guard goon squads descend on NY.
Thursday is the red letter day now with hard stats on NYC crime rates where Traitor agreed Mamdani and Hochul have kept things under control, and Traitor/DOJ cant point to escalating crime or riots or insurrection to send in the goons.
This has been how Portland and Chicago have been winning (so far) against their own illegal occupations. The DOJ has had to point to specific violence and insurrection activities on specific timelines to (try to) justify their invasion. The states have effectively used these bogus manufactured dates to illustrate that Traitor has no basis for his claims. Theres literally no evidence of extra violence or escalation except what the goons have provoked (why its been important for citizens to document any skirmishes).
I believe thats why Mamdani went. To set a date on the record where even Traitor had to acknowledge NY and NYC do not need feds.
nini
(16,819 posts)They don't care about court cases overall since they know ultimately they have the DOJ backing them up enough to keep going. The whole system is rigged right now to help.
They're still here in the LA area going after folks and not giving a damn if it's legit or not.

(8,627 posts)That ICE/DHS continue their terror is just a fact we have atm. Of course its crap but people are fighting back - on the streets and in court.
Theres a federal case moving in Chicago about ICE First Amendment abuses towards protesters and journalists. Along with the rampant and illegal detention of US citizens.
Plus Chicago has a third case going about the inhumane federal detention centers (Broadview specifically) and the lack of congressional oversight.
You can dismiss these but there is movement. Activists are activated on every level, fighting back. SCOTUS will fuck things up on some/many/all of these fronts but there will be a record of the illegality for history or future Nuremberg type trials.
Mamdani put NYCs chips on the table and again, I think it was a smart move.
nini
(16,819 posts)I just dont agree the stunt with trump is going to pay off like some think it will.
Like I said, I too doubt any detente will last.
I think this move is more about getting Traitor on the record that he feels NY and NYC are handling things fine atm, for the inevitable court case ahead.
Id almost speculate that Hochul and Mamdani coordinated this but Im guessing shes staying in the shadows during this transition.
Time will tell

(51,463 posts)next to each other. Whether it is business, or art, or foreign relations. We never see one is sitting and the other standing. In his first year in office he had the Kardashian(s?) and her husband and a friend and the friends mother all sitting around his desk.
This was bizarre earlier this year when Musk was standing there delivering his ideas (and his spawn picking his nose)..
Again, strange.

(28,575 posts)My nutty conspiracy theory: Trump was all like, FDR? Okay, I'll show you who's the FDR, and sat at the desk like he couldn't stand up.
He was having a very good day health wise so there's a chance he actually remembered who FDR was.

Thats what I saw.

(40,501 posts)Also, I didn't see any backup players, like Vance or Rubio, probably cuz Don assumed Mamdani would kiss the ring or that he, Trump, would humiliate Mamdani in front of the press. Mamdani played it perfectly, & like someone online pointed out, right now he's the most popular person in the room & Trump loves hanging with popular people.
