This is depressing.

(23,223 posts)Why? Platner has shown himself to be unfit. Mills will be 79, raising the real risk of her not serving out her term.
In addition, she is pro-filibuster, and if America is to recover from the damage of the Trump era and restore democracy, the filibuster must die and the court must be expanded. Why should Maine elect someone who will enable the obstruction of critical legislation needed to protect the freedoms eroded during the Trump era?
I ask again, why would we elect someone who would perpetuate politics-as-usual?
How? People get recruited all the time to run for office - Mills was recruited for this senate run.
Who? Its eight months until the primary, six months until candidate filing deadline, plenty of time to find a suitable candidate better the Platner or Mills.

Sorry - I know it's not exactly to the point. But, I couldn't help myself.

(2,899 posts)Democrats/liberals are not immune.
If you remember 2000 you remember reports that Bill Bradley was the "real" liberal and Al Gore was a DINO.
When the reality was both Gore and Bradley were pretty much centrists.
But lots of people jumped on the "real" liberal band wagon.
Sadly it's the same here, except Platner advertised himself as the real liberal.
In a way it's a failure of the Maine and national Democratic parties. They should have been grooming possible Collins replacements since she first won office.
