I say this almost daily...if this move could "wreck credit for millions," it would make Trump smile, because he's NOT just going after Comey and his high-profile "enemies."He wants to "punish" as many Americans as possible for electing Biden in 2020.

An attorney specializing in consumer protection is sounding the alarm as the Trump administration prepares to enact a new policy that could tank credit ratings for millions of Americans.
A total of 15 states currently have laws that limit medical debt from impacting individuals' credit scores, laws that were enacted under the Biden administration, which in early 2025 issued a new rule that would have removed all medical debt from credit reports, eliminating an estimated $49 billion in unpaid medical bills from credit reports.
However, the Trump administration is set to issue guidance Tuesday that would roll back the Biden administrations efforts by prohibiting states from withholding individuals medical debt from credit reporting, The Lever reported Monday, a move that could harm millions of Americans, according to Chi Chi Wu, an attorney with the National Consumer Law Center.

[The Trump administrations new guidance is] trying to invalidate [state] protections that dont cost anything to anyone, Wu said, speaking with The Lever. Its not just taking a hands-off approach and saying, we wont protect consumers, its saying, we are going to actively harm you.

(20,662 posts)Going after Comey and Leticia James isn't enough for him. And, I'm sure what appeals to him most about harming millions of Americans with this is that most of them are not in a position to fight back. Bullies love that.

(20,662 posts)...I found it extremely disturbing that all of his ghost-written books included lengthy passages or full chapters on the importance of "revenge," specifically "striking back 10 times harder."
Napoleon Hill's "Think And Grow Rich" ... published in 1937...was the first major, mass-market "self help / business success" book.
He presented the idea of "Sex Transmutation / Sex Energy." Essentially, re-direct the energy from a primal urge that exists in everyone into business success, projects, etc.
Trump re-directs his energy into seeking revenge, hurting and intimidating people. He constantly shows himself to be beyond "needy," in constant need of reinforcement and praise for "accomplishments" that sometimes exist only in his mind. And, because he never gets enough, the "energy" is re-purposed into hurting people, which makes him feel as good about himself as he's likely to feel.
. He taught that this energy, when not used for physical expression, could be consciously redirected or "transmuted" into creative, intellectual, and professional pursuits, leading to great success, often after the age of 40. This process requires self-discipline to control sexual impulses and channel them into goals through activities like creative projects, work, and visualization.

(20,662 posts)I think it's safe to say that most MAGAts know that, in the "big picture," they HAVE no power.
They're not respected, they're not admired, they're not taken seriously. They are on the fringes of society because they belong there. Their hate, racism, paranoia, resentment...average Americans are repulsed by that and want to distance themselves from it as much as possible.
So when the MAGAts see Trump hurting someone, especially if it's people they have been trained to hate and fear, they get the warm fuzzies.

(20,364 posts)that THEY too are likely among the millions who have Medical Debt as well and that their credit ratings will be affected.
The trouble with MAGAts is that there are too many of them unable to THINK for themselves.

2. Those who try to pay for their medical care without the means will now go bankrupt as medical debt will be included on their credit scores.

(20,662 posts)...basically the fact that Republicans hate the idea of Americans receiving healthcare, and letting the tax credits expire would collapse the system. THEN...if they ever stepped up and offered an alternative, their big business cronies in the healthcare industry would all get a "taste."

(20,662 posts)1). Had COLORADO Medicaid.
2). Had a SEVERE panic attack here in South Carolina. DID NOT KNOW it was NOT a HEART ATTACK.
3). Went to the E.R. (it WAS a panic attack, just a really hellacious and debilitating one).
4). CALLED COLORADO. They said "If you legitimately thought your life was in danger, we WILL pay the bill, they just need to submit it to us.
5). Told the hospital that. They basically said "No, we'd rather you just pay us the $1250."
6). Made three other attempts to get them to send in the single-page form that would have gotten them paid.
7). They reported it to the credit bureaus.
8). It got sold and re-sold to THREE DIFFERENT "junk debt" buyers, each time going on the report as A NEW CHARGE.
9). I no longer have a FICO score because the hospital refused to fill out a single-page form that would have paid them every penny.

(20,662 posts)It's just human nature, "desperate times call for desperate measures."
When people are on SNAP for a while, they become accustomed to it, like any other routine. There may be SOME people who have a fall-back "contingency" plan, but a lot of them are living month-to-month. Yank the rug out from under them and everybody's going to have a different response. Not every response will be rational and pro-active. But Republicans don't care, because they have been VEHEMENTLY OPPOSED to poor people receiving food assistance and healthcare for DECADES, and this was their moment to strike. So, they did. They're happy Musk and Bezos and Thiel and Zuckerberg got their tax cuts, and don't really care about what they did to make it happen.
