ME-SEN: Mills takes lead over Platner as Maine Democrat's controversy swirls: Poll

Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) has taken the polling lead over Democratic primary challenger Graham Platner in the Pine Tree State’s 2026 Senate race, according to a survey released Saturday.

The SoCal Strategies Maine Poll found Mills garnering 41 percent support from likely voters surveyed, while Platner received 36 percent. A fifth of respondents were undecided.

he results come after days of controversy surrounding Platner over controversial, resurfaced social media posts and the revelation that he had a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol.

Prior to the news, survey results from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center showed Platner leading Mills by 34 percentage points.

Since I'm here I should also note that the UNH poll that had Platner way ahead used self-selecting respondents.

2. Holy cow. "Self-selecting respondents" is not a poll, it's internet clickbait.

Thank you for pointing that out. It's ridiculous how people were running with that earlier University of New Hampshire Survey Center "survey" like it was a legitimate poll.

Mills is pro-filibuster, and that should be a deal breaker. (Not to mention she will be 79 as she begins her term in the senate)

Court expansion under the next Dem president is critical to pass legislation that won’t be subsequently overturned. If Dems are going to have any hope of undoing the damage of the Trump era, and restoring democracy, the court must be expanded, and the only way that is going to happen is by killing the filibuster.

There are five other candidates running for the Dem nomination- nothing says voters must choose between Platner and Mills right now. Polling is still at the name recognition stage; let’s hope some progressive anti-filibuster candidate steps into this opportunity soon.

will ever be killed. I think Dems are skittish thinking about what would've happened if the Senate didn't have one now and Trump got to pass every bill he wanted.

Only being restrained after the fact by the courts, some of the time.

We must elect fearless senators who won’t worry about what republicans might do - we’ve already seen their worst with the filibuster.

If the filibuster is killed quickly and the court expanded, then the next Dem administration can govern progressively without hesitation or obstruction, and the people will be reluctant to vote them out and lose the benefits (child tax credit, lower healthcare premiums, basic human rights) of good Dem governance.

It simply must be done. Anyone to fearful of what republicans might do should get out of the way and make room for someone with more courage.

The economy was much better, and far fewer people lost healthcare or saw premiums increase in 2018.

That was the year Dems gained 40 seats in the house.

The only type of people who would support Platner at this point are the same type of people who are ok with the con artist.

As more people become aware of that along with the despicable racist, misogynist, and anti-LGBTQ comments, his campaign will continue to circle the toilet.

Mills is going to take out Collins.
