General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe future of the Democratic party & the country depends on latinos understanding that Republicans
have revealed their preferred societal structure and while they may agree with latinos on matters that pertain to Christian beliefs, latinos are no where to be found in the top tiers of their ideal society. The only expectation is that this minority group will be useful to them during elections, but then suffer the negative consequences afterwards.
So, while they're shock, SHOCKED that the Republicans turned on them, the important thing they should remember is that it's going to take the Republican party one or more generations to leech this perception from the minds of the public. So, minorities who decide to continue supporting them, have to decide how much pain they are willing to inflict on themselves.
By the way, another DUer posted this link, which does show that latinos are finally waking up: 27% in support of Trump. 73% against. This can completely undermine the Texan gerrymandering effort.

(49,332 posts)We absolutely do. Weve lived our entire lives, for generations, understanding it.
The ones you cant get to are the militarily brainwashed and the upwardly mobile who think their money makes them white and gets them a seat at the table.
Shall we talk about white women next? They need to understand, too, right?

(33,785 posts)that your "Christian" hates and phobias
aren't Christian at all, but rather Old
Testament shit attributed to a very
hateful, vengeful Senex god.
Christ was about love and inclusion,
and that was always clear in the NT.

(1,051 posts)Or white women. Or white men in general. Putting it on minority groups to save us when white people (and I am one) have been enough to break shit just fine even when Latinos voted with us more in 2016, is weird.
Or maybe it's an opportunity for the party to revamp our message to be more appealing to a wider audience. We lost the popular vote in 2024, something we had only done 1 time since 1988. We aren't competitive in a lot of Senate races. One of the things the public is telling us is our hyper focus on identity politics isn't working. Obviously we shouldn't abandon various minority groups, but there's a lesson that we can be speaking to the larger public that isn't happy with the world or ignore them and hope they go away. But right now, the world at large is seeing a rise in right wing nationalism and it's not going away as much as it should.
Take our own agency. Don't blame a group for not responding to our message, figure out how our message can reach them.
