Construction workers involved in the demolition of the East Wing of the White House have signed non-disclosure agreements and are not permitted to speak to the press.
Workers who did respond to press inquiries told reporters, Were not allowed to answer questions and Everything has to go through the White House press office, CNN reports.
Others said they had signed NDAs that legally prevent them from sharing confidential information. The Daily Beast has contacted the White House for comment.
A White House official who spoke to CNN said NDAs were routine, particularly as some contractors require security clearances because there are aspects of the project that deal with operational security on campus.

(20,817 posts)destroying the WH for a ballroom, while the USA's economy sucks. People may lose their healthcare, hell, they are losing their jobs, not getting salaries. Prices are sky high, can't afford rent, house payments, car note, insurance.
But hey, 40 billion to Argentina, and shithole and comrades are paying ICE, the deportations, the concentration camps while treating immigrants, USA citizens, even visitors inhumanly.

(771 posts)Republican Politicans, and Republican Mega Donors are the only ones who will ever see it.......and pay 5,000 dollars a plate for dinner.....
Mar-a-Gago only holds a few hundred for dinners, this one will hold 900.........Trump has to pay for the cost of dinners at Mar-a-Gago, including the food........At the white house dinners, the tax payers will pick up all the costs and food expenses......

(51,271 posts)clearances. He doesn't have anyone vetted. Our country is extremely vulnerable to threats from our enemies while he is in office. The only enemies he is concerned about are his political adversaries and a big percentage of the American people.

(9,708 posts)I think the ballroom is a distraction. They're doing something else, something far more sinister, than constructing a ballroom. The speed at which they're working, the fact that none of this was disclosed in advance, these NDA's with the workers....to me, they're up to something. As they always are.

(11,935 posts)There's no way the Royal Ballroom should cost $350m. There is no accounting or tracking for the donations, so a lot of that money will simply disappear but the "donors" know what they're really buying.

There is not a single thing that he has touched his ENTIRE life, that wasn't a corrupt grift.........
it's a money-laundering operation.
For all we know, they took all of the priceless national heirlooms out and sold them on the black market-- historical fixtures, portraits, service pieces like the china chosen by First Ladies of the past.
Shades of "The Rape of Europa:" the documentary detailing the Nazi theft of the artistic treasures of Europe, many of which have never been found.
That is OUR House, NOT his.
Who will put a stop to it all is the question....

(127,952 posts)It will actually cost a fraction of what he's claiming, but since he won't have to account for the costs or the payments, he can keep the millions that are left over after the project is completed, the plywood and particle board painted and gilded so the oligarchs who paid for it don't notice the poor quality - at least for a few years until bits of the gold-painted styrofoam arabesques from Hobby Lobby start falling off into Peter Thiel's lobster bisque.

Whoever above said the NDAs are so we don't notice the Russian Accents of the demo crews was exactly right. It will be the same with construction crews. Scores of Russians will be embedded in those crews.
You never see a Russian get deported under a Trump admin, do you?

(4,483 posts)But, also, surely this is a huge way for Trump to prove that he can do anything that he wants.
And the more that he proves that he can do anything that he wants, the stronger and more established his power grows.
Two year olds learn this when their parents let them go wild.
How many people, on either side, would have or could have predicted last November that Trump would literally demolish part of the White House with not much more than a ripple of protest?

(24,508 posts)they're going to get paid! Now he's trying to sue his own DOJ for $230 million that some think will go to pay for his ballroom monument to himself. It will go in his pocket. Oh, and by the way, these contractors should be prosecuted. Who knows how many ordinances and laws they have broken to accommodate Herr Drumpf.

(771 posts)the numbers of security cameras, etc that will be a part of it.......
Side Note: When the actress in Hill Street Blues, (Hammill?) bought the Marilyn Monroes house, she reported that it cost her and her husband hundreds of thousands of dollars to remove all the secret hidden cameras and recording devices enclosed in the house, in every single room.....
They had to rip open walls throughout the house, and then pay to have the walls, ceilings, etc replaced.........
Sounds like J Edgar Hoover's FBI work.........................................

Personally had Trump gotten congressional approval, and permits and shit, I'd be okay with this. But he didn't and he's not a fucking king. This is destroying part of the historic White House and no one should be okay with that.

(14,593 posts)Who were the contractors, and what did they build, and how can it be secured. Because without that, nothing classified or even or remotely sensitive in nature should be done, discussed, or allowed anywhere near this new building.
Id be curious what sort of hardened communications lines and such also went through the area that is now being demolished.
