3. My father and his father and his father

were cattle "ranchers" (farmers, really, we weren't that grandiose). They would be furious over this stupid plan.

When I was a kid, we lived for years on a country schoolteacher salary and whatever we made from selling cattle and wheat. My family were proud of their lives, and this would have crushed them.

And they were Democrats (don't know about great-grandpa, it was over a century ago).
