Leslieoo7 @Leslieoo7 10hI will vote for the first Dem 2028 candidate to promise to jackhammer the Rose Garden patio on day one and bulldoze the ballroom on day two.
Then, they can take down the gold in the Oval and start fixing all the other shit. It's symbolic. I want this disgrace wiped from history.

The whole salary making hardly a dent in 250 million. And, of course, he won't pay a cent.
IF the oligarchs pay for it they'll get it back another way. We are paying for it one way or another.
When we get out of this mess I guess they'll pass some laws that presidents don't get to destroy historic buildings without a review process, Congress, etc. Besides laws in general.

(76,692 posts)They are experts are identifying what is valuable and important to others.
And then tormenting and torturing them with this information.
He himself does not value anything except his own skin, power and wealth.
He does not share the values of the American people or care about our country,
democracy, rule of law etc.
Trump deliberately tore up Jackie Kennedy's Rose Garden and the East Wing to
torment liberals. And the appointment of RFK Jr to humiliate the Kennedys further.
All purposeful.
MadameButterfly
(3,642 posts)so I accept your analysis, but still I doubt Trump has perused the history of the East Room or knows anything about Mary Lincoln redecorating or Willie suffering from typhoid fever while she held a ball there....
(I'm not sure yet whether the East Room has survived)

(76,692 posts)Trained and experienced clinicians know very well how narcissists and psychopaths operate.
Also the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
And the best explanation for current behavior are past motives.
This is how the FBI, CIA, State Dept can put together very accurate profiles
of subjects.
Of course Trump does not know or care about American history.
And has no understanding of nuance or details.
The only thing he knows is that the White House is important to the American people.
And that it will hurt them when he destroys it.
I also think Trump is being advised by people with more sophistication and nuance.
But Trump just knows the basics or torturing and tormenting people to kill their spirit.

(34,489 posts)In Trump style, it will be poorly-designed, and slapped up with cheap materials. The first big snow, and down comes the roof. I'd rather my tax dollars fund the upkeep of all of our existing museums over that eyesore. We'll be digging out of this mess for generations as it is. We'll have enough reminders, like the way he fucked up our government, trade and other foreign relations...
0rganism
(25,374 posts)The reminders aren't for us, but for our great grandchildren (should we be so lucky). The entire process leading to this disaster needs to be studied; the price of losing democracies to tyranny is too damn high. Every schoolchild must know and appreciate the scope of this calamity, and the damage done directly to the WH is a perfect encapsulation.
GoCubsGo
(34,489 posts)That includes the missing East Wing, which is is in every photo of the White House up until now. Not to mention the damage he did to our country that will take generations to repair--if it can be repaired at all. Your grandkids are going have to live with the messes he created, including his hostility toward efforts to mitigate climate change. They're not going to think twice about that fucking ballroom, when they're sweltering in the heat, and drowning as the sea levels rise.

(2,967 posts)One of his pet projects was for a national amphitheater. A monstrous thing of black stone in (IIRC) Nuremberg. When the war started going badly, work stopped and the laborers downed tools to pick up weapons. It still looms in the heart of the city, just as it was left...with one addition. There is a museum of the Holocaust there, and a huge documentary library that serves as a research facility for historians and prosecuters.

In addition I will prioritize the reunion of the families and children from the first round of this hell, apologize to the world for our behavior, and welcome back all the deported regardless of legal status. I also promise to stop provoking conflict around the world. And finally I promise to ship the J6ers and anyone involved with the illegal ICE raids off to the Hague as I could trust them for a fair and just trial. That would be impossible here.
Then that done, I promise to turn the whole show over to someone who is more capable Kamala Harris would be my first choice.

(3 posts)Heres a measured reply you can use it pushes back on destructive talk while keeping the tone punchy and constructive:
I get the frustration the Rose Garden and Oval Office feel like symbols that matter. That said, tearing things up or bulldozing them isnt the answer. If you want the next president to reverse recent changes (like the Rose Garden paving) or remove gilded decor, the effective route is political and legal: vote, back candidates who promise restorations, push preservation groups, and pressure Congress or the National Park Service to act. Recent renovations to the Rose Garden and changes in the Oval have already sparked a lot of public debate.
Symbolic changes can be powerful restoration projects, new decor choices, and public ceremonies can rewrite the story without breaking the law. If you want, I can help draft a short social post or a letter to your representative calling for a thoughtful restoration plan.
