Democratic senators fear getting 'hammered' after 'No Kings' for ending shutdown

Some Democrats skeptical about their leadership’s hard-line stance against reopening the federal government privately acknowledge that they fear getting “hammered” by their liberal base if they vote for a Republican funding bill.

Grassroots Democrats frustrated with the Trump administration have been demanding a fight, and on Saturday millions showed up at “No Kings” demonstrations across the country to protest the president’s government.

In that context, Democrats know they will get hit hard by a number of voices on the left if they do not get something for opening the government.

“People are going to get hammered” if they vote for the House-passed bill to reopen the government and keep it funded through Nov. 21, said one Democratic senator who requested anonymity to talk candidly about their party.

3. INDEED---- "GOOD!" That was my first gut-level response....

However, I am still on SNAP food benefits, which will purportedly be cut off for November in many states, if the shutdown lasts that long...
(It may depend on what state someone is in, whether the individual states will be fiscally able to 'cover' for the lack of federal funds in the meantime, or not.... probably many blue states will try to do so if they can, while the red states would not, and blame it on the Democrats...)

Now, I have been stockpiling certain things (like hoarding peanut butter) in anticipation of losing those benefits after the "3 months" of November, December and January, because of the "work requirements" written into the GOP's 'Big Beautiful Abortion' bill---
which I don't anticipate being able to satisfy---

so I won't starve if my benefits don't arrive in November, or are late--- and so I am personally willing
to bear any personal inconvenience over this issue, next month anyway, for the Democrats to 'stand firm'! --

but I am concerned for those with large families who perhaps have been unable
(or unaware) to make any preparations for such a cut-off....
and they amount to many millions of American citizens, especially a lot of children---

--- so if the Democrats eventually would have to vote for the "clean bill"
based on that issue alone, I would understand it---

After all, it is NOT the DEMOCRATS who want to starve all our poorer citizens,
but it IS the REPUBLICAN NAZI wannabees, who WANT poor people to DIE---
OR WORK in the fields, because they are chasing away all the immigrant labor!

(and if they DIE, then they won't VOTE--- GQP's realize THAT,
despite their propaganda about 'dead voters'!)

I tend to "run on", maybe if I get enough recs I'll refashion this into an OP...

If other backup measures fail, I and many others would go hungry.

So don’t vote for a Republican funding bill.

Vote for a bill that represents Democratic (the people's) interests.

9. Another centrist Dem (the retiring Shaheen, so her true colours are showing) is starting to cave

On Thursday, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.) became the fourth Democrat to signal unease with the party’s staunch opposition to what in normal times would be relatively uncontroversial funding bills when she voted Thursday to advance an $852 billion defense funding bill.

Democratic senators acknowledge a handful of their colleagues would love to end the tense standoff over federal funding, but they say those members are worried a liberal backlash could end their political careers.

“Are there enough Democrats to join Republicans to reopen the government? Not in the near term,” said the Democratic senator who requested anonymity. “There is no bipartisan conversation that’s anything but bulls‑‑‑.”

The senator said centrist Democratic colleagues would vote to open the government “yesterday” if left to their own devices but don’t want to risk an angry backlash from the base.

Yeah, we expect our Democratic representatives to Hold the Fucking Line!

No whinging, no crying, no cutting loose while the country fights for its life.

I really hope this is propaganda from lazy or compromised reporters.
