Not sure how many people watched the video posted here in DU about the farmers, and the main reason they voted for trump. They were bailed out during his first term, and they wanted the same this time around, easy money, so their decision was the heck with the country as long as they got their money.
As I have said before, yes we are all going to suffer, but they voted selfishly, I feel they have little to complain, they knew who the guy and his minions are.

I've made my arguments and there's nothing more to say. I think I'm done with this one for awhile. Fortunately, I have trust that our party and the DNC will not engage in masturbatory and MAGA trolling messages reminding people of things that everyone already knows. "Hey! Did you know that Trump is a bad man? Okay... we just wanted to spend a million or so dollars to remind you. This ad was paid for by the DNC."

Too many people will not have even heard about this issue for it to affect their opinion. It would also help them get more resources as many of us are unwilling to give more money to the party when we see no real effort on their part to do any messaging whatsoever.
And, if the party leadership and the DNC knew what they were doing I do not think we would be in nearly the situation we currently find ourselves. Staying on the current path will see Democrats purged from any political power whatsoever.

(438 posts)The point is to highlight the lie that he is actually trying to make America great when he gives billions of dollars to a foreign country that is undermining our own farmers--and the fact that he does not even care that he is doing it.
I live in a rural area where farmers in this part of the country were democrats not that long ago. They've bought into the culture wars, sure--but they are also people that do not like to be lied to and do not want to lose their livelihoods to the whims of a NY billionaire with a tariff fetish that's never had to mortgage their farm in the hope of making it to the next growing season.
Sure, most of what the Tangerine Traitor does has no effect on their opinion, but taking away their markets through tariffs and then bailing out their competitors after those same competitors dropped their own tariffs in an attempt to take that market away from them entirely is a pretty important fact that we need to make sure they are aware of.
I get that you disagree--and that is your prerogative--but there is an old but true adage in advertising: 90% of your advertising dollars are wasted; you just don't know which ones. With many of the tools available today getting some of these things out there does not have to cost a fortune to reach people, but it does take making the effort. Conservatives are currently doing a much better job of getting their message out over social media. There is zero excuse for Democrats to be behind in this regard.

(322 posts)It's thinking small and ignoring the big picture and ignoring reality ... in favor of performative and trolling ads that only serve to annoy MAGA (but to change no votes) ... or to "entertain" Democratic voters (but, again, to GAIN no additional votes).
It's not 1960, or 1980, or 2000. Times have changed. One would think that the folks clamoring for new-leadership, and who constantly complain that our party's leaders are "too old" would be the last ones to be clinging to the methods and ideas of old-media.
The days of voters being impressed with "full page ads" and getting an hour on public-access-TV are over. Those things (and similar) just don't have the same impact as it used to. Oh well.

(322 posts)Spending a million dollars to grab a handful of malcontents who can be convinced to switch? Or putting it towards a more inclusive and further-reaching GOTV effort where the ROI is much higher? While it may be emotionally satisfying to "convert" a MAGA... I think the bigger and more meaningful reward will be with a sustained and successful GOTV effort that targets those who are FAR MORE LIKELY to be swayed.
But, to each their own, I suppose. Y'all can armchair quarterback all you want... this kind of grievance-shopping and public moaning/groaning about how "out of touch" our party is seems to be quite the sport these days. But I trust the wisdom of our party's leadership when it comes to where, when, and HOW the most effective ways to spend ad-money will be.

How about an ad buy as people here are describing, with a suggestion to CALL YOUR CONGRESS REPRESENTATIVE and let them know you oppose this
It's important to engage people - and not just when it's time to vote
QueerDuck
(322 posts)Oooo! I know! --- How about a "sternly worded letter" to the MAGA congresspersons? What about that?? Surely it would be more effective than simply leaving a voicemail message on an answering machine or voicemail service.
Realistic people know that MAGA congressmen and women do not care. These old-fashioned things simply do not work any more... not in today's world, and certainly not with the MAGA cult. Those who voted for them will not be swayed by a wasteful ad-spend, and if a few reasonable-minded folks decided to call or send sternly worded letters... it will fall on deaf ears. ("Press 7 to delete all messages", and/or letters would go directly into the shredder/burn-bag.)
A total boondoggle wasting money so short-sighted planners and pundits can pat themselves on the back claiming "well, at least we tried" while thinking to themselves ("we should have listened to Queerduck and others who had similar messages and warnings. But that car-wash and bake-sale still looks like a good idea!"

It's unclear why you want to make this about me. But since you wanted to go there, I'll gladly admit that indeed I do NOT "know way more" than anyone else here.... but I can say with a great deal of confidence that I do have a better grasp on reality than the "let's have a bake-sale" attitude and those who embrace legacy media, and cult-deprogramming, as the be-all and end-all answer to our nation's woes. I also know that the nonstop hammering of the Democratic party doesn't do anything positive, although the GOP certainly welcomes it, I'm sure, since it suppresses votes and support.
But, to each their own... we'll just have to work even harder and raise our voices to be even stronger than the GOP and those who try to denigrate the party. They don't need to follow our lead... but please... I hope they just get out of the way and stop trying to block progress.

(322 posts)GOTV efforts will benefit Democrats better than "convert a MAGA" and other cult deprogramming efforts. Clearly it's best to put the limited resources where they will make the biggest difference. It's a waste of time to try and "fix" or "save" them. Let's just go for the low hanging easy to reach fruit. For the time and cost of saving one MAGA voter, we could easily get dozens to outnumber him.
But, you do you... I trust that the DNC will make wiser choices and pursue more effective strategies.

(4,428 posts)The Democratic voters don't need to be convinced. The apathetic and ignorant third will only be energized enough to vote when and if they personally feel steep inflation, which will probably become worse next year. At that time they may be susceptible to education on what Trump did to make the inflation worse. They need to be educated right before next year's election or they will forget.
As for the maga third, they won't vote Democratic, the best that can be hoped for is that they stay home. Those farmers and ranchers may be bailed out by Trump before the election anyway.

Where did all that money go? Why, 80% of it went to finance dollarizing peso assets and offshoring by both local elites and foreign speculators - including JP Morgan, who previously employed the same character who's overseeing the same heist now: Luis Caputo.
But politically, it didn't save Macri's hide back then - and it's not going to work now.

Many settled in the Carlsbad-Escondido, CA, area - when as late as the 2000s, the "Danish" cafés full of surly old German men played 'Lili Marlene' and some antique stores looked like Third Reich museums.
Worst of all, they (particularly Reinhard Gehlen) had an enormous influence in our national security policy - including on the National Security Act of 1947, which Truman later regretted signing.
It goes without saying they heavily infiltrated the GOP (psy-ops expert Otto von Bolschwing and his protegée Helene von Damm - Reagan's secretary - were two such characters).

(105,046 posts)Here's the current World Bank summary of the Argentinian economy:
Since December 2023, Javier Mileis administration has implemented a stabilization program based on a strong correction of the fiscal and external deficit, the realignment of relative prices, and the reduction of monetary imbalance. Among the main achievements are the primary fiscal surplus reached for the first time in yearswhile simultaneously strengthening transfers to vulnerable householdsand the sustained reduction of monthly inflation, which fell from 25% in December 2023 to around 2% in August 2025, contributing to a decrease in poverty.
In April 2025, the government initiated an Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program with the IMF, as part of an international effort together with the World Bank Group and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to support the reform path that Argentina is implementing and help the country foster long-term growth and employment opportunities. Argentina received an initial disbursement of US$12 billion from the IMF and US$1.5 billion from the World Bank to support measures accompanying the reform agenda, protect the most vulnerable, and promote private investment. In August, the Fund approved the first review of the program, releasing another US$2 billion, despite the failure to meet the reserve accumulation target.

(12,359 posts)My Grandfather came here after WWI with his half-sisters and one half-brother. He had another half-brother who stayed in what's now Romania. The half-brother was then conscripted into the SS "Prince Eugene" brigade, which the Nazis used to subjugate the Balkans. In the late 1960's, I remember my GF trying to get his half-brother into the US from Germany. My dad and his siblings all told him that was a really bad idea.

(2,938 posts)... whatever happened to "AMERICA FIRST"? You've betrayed this country at every turn. Those mental defectives that still support you deserve whatever fate befalls them. The rest of us do not.

(22,972 posts)We've seen this movie before: in 2018, when Cheeto arm-twisted the IMF into lending his old pal Macri $45 billion (remember that one?).
Where did all that money go?
Why, 80% of it went to finance offshoring by both local elites and foreign speculators - including JP Morgan, who employed the same character who's overseeing the same heist now: Luis Caputo.
Bessent's pals are just trying to do the same thing JP Morgan, Vanguard and Franklin Templeton did: Earn outsized interest % in Argentina, then use borrowed dollars to dollarize and offshore.
But politically, it didn't save Macri's hide back then - and it's not going to work now.

(52,721 posts)...that hiring Dr. Thomas Piketty and Dr. Paul Krugman to go down there and unfuck the Argentine economy is out of the question. If they leave the people they have down there screwing up the whole thing in charge they are going to get the same results they always have, and austerity isn't going to fix shit.

I heard we'd only need $20B to fund the ACA they are closing down the govt about, wonder where we might find that?
Not to mention helping anyone else here in our country.

Keep on doing the work. Spread this response, and remind people of the incredible cost in life, and danger to our national security (as China moves to fill the void) of his war on international aid that has had bipartisan since US AID was created in 1961.
Note: The estimate is based on the projection of 14 million deaths by 2030 if the aid is not restored.

(834 posts)He said, regarding Milei and a $20 billion gift to Argentina, "We think he's going to win. He should win, and if he does win, we're going to be very helpful. If he doesn't win, we're not going to waste our time." The Argentine market and currency fell at that my-way-or-the-highway message. That's why they added the $20 billion currency swap.
Bessent's old investment group, Blackrock, and a couple other American investment groups invested heavily in Milei and Argentina. Milei failed miserably so this bailout also lets Blackrock et al off the hook.

Thousands of federal employees are out of jobs, food snap program being discontinued but hes got money for Argentina while screwing over our soybean, cattle and other farmers. Why isnt there more anger about this money being spent?

MY bottom line wants to know if we really have to wait another three-and-some years to get rid of this greedy, dishonest, duplicitous jerk.
I wish we werent stuck with him for that long. Hard to imagine what kind of damage, and how much of it that he can do until then.
