Laura Rozen @lrozen 1hTrump says Egyptian autocrat Sisi, who he has previously called his favorite dictator, says Egypt does not have a problem with crime like he has because of Democratic governors resisting his sending federal troops to their states.
(His State Dept issued a level 2 travel warning for Egypt in July, saying: Exercise increased caution in Egypt due to terrorism, crime, and health. Some areas have increased risk.)

So theres a lot of respect, and I think youll see some tremendous progress, both in the Middle East. This country is doing very well. It has good leadership, Trump said of Sisi, who came to power following a coup in 2013 and has since been accused of widespread oppression and anti-democratic tactics. Trump continued:
Its about leadership, and its really nice when you say, How is your crime situation? and they dont even know what youre talking about. What do you mean crime? We dont have crime.
Because if they have it, they put it out very quickly. Some people think thats not nice, but I think its great, because people dont want to be mugged and smashed, and they dont want to be stupid people. They have a place that is doing very well. Were very proud of them, because we knew each other from the beginning.
The first time I metit was in a hotel, and I was going to meet him, and then Hillary Clinton was following me. Remember Hillary Clinton? And he liked me so much, he never even got to see Hillary. He saw her for about two seconds, but he didnt really want to waste a lot of time. He knew what was going to happen.
But that was the first time we met, and we had a very good chemistry together, and it continues till today. So I want to thank you all very much. I appreciate the way you covered this really momentousIve never said anything like itthe level of love, the level of respect for what it is. And its, you know, its peace in the Middle East, and everybody said its not possible to do.
Human Rights Watch writes of Sisis government that as it entered its second decade in power by continuing wholesale repression, systematically detaining and punishing peaceful critics and activists, and effectively criminalizing peaceful dissent. Authorities detained and prosecuted dozens of protesters and activists, including at Palestine solidarity demonstrations. Thousands of detainees remained locked up in dire conditions in lengthy pretrial detention or on sentences stemming from unjust trials.

(30,095 posts)he is getting worse.
He is getting like "that guy" who hung out at the club when we stopped after work for just one. He knew we set up the bar numerous times.
But back to bullshitting, no one wanted him sitting next to us, he always caught the biggest fish, shot the biggest buck, had the coldest temperature at his house, so cold he had to take a blow torch to his electric line.
No one believed one thing he said.

(75,558 posts)Recent reporting has revealed that former Attorney General Bill Barr shut down a DOJ investigation in 2019 into whether the 2016 Trump campaign sought to accept an illegal ten million dollar campaign contribution from the Egyptian government. If true, Barrs decision to halt the investigation prevented the DOJ from shedding light on what transpired and whether funds were illegally accepted or sought from a foreign government. The American people deserve to know whether a foreign government attempted to influence American leaders and elections.
CREW has requested all records related to the now-closed investigation into a $10 million cash withdrawal from the National Bank of Egypt and its relation to intelligence indicating that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi sought to give $10 million to the Trump campaign in 2016.
